Chapter 30: Experimentation

"That might fix the issue of your wings. However, why not just ask her to include them in her spell?"

"I already told you why I'd rather not ask Miyu-san in the first place. However, I don't have any other ideas."

"Say, I've heard from fellow guards that met a vampire that they retract their wings inside of their body somehow. Wouldn't that work?" Kyo offered.

"I can't see how that would physically work, though. I mean, I don't think I can shrink or enlarge them."

"I think that you might be able to change their size with magic, though," Father added. "The spell usually doesn't function on people due to limitations I'm not sure of, but if it's only on your wings maybe it'll work?"

I thought about it more as I was taking the last few mouthfuls of my food. It would definitely fix the issue of having to rely on Miyu to fix this issue, or having to learn her spell and accidentally release everything. I couldn't see any reason not to go with that solution, so I swallowed the last bit of food I was eating and asked:

"That sounds like a good idea. Do you have any more info on that spell?"

"I don't know much about it, just that it exists and that's it's Light magic. I can ask Rin-san more info about it."

"Wait, can we ask as few people as we can please? You know I want to keep this as hidden as possible."

"Even Rin-san shouldn't be asked anything?"

"No. Even if you don't tell him what you're asking for, there is a possibility that such information might leak eventually. Considering the rumor about me being a full-S-ranker, anything could happen."

"Well, your ranks are recorded officially, so that kind of thing ending up being known by everyone seems pretty normal. I'd be surprised if me asking for information on a spell would become such a big thing, considering I am a magic researcher."

"You're right. I guess in that case you can do it."

"I will give him a magiphone call now, then. As far as I know, he is the only person capable of using that spell due to the high difficulty of it."

"Alright. I'll go back outside and see if I can find something that we could use."

I first cleaned my plate, using magic to float up on my board without much trouble, and headed outside to do some more testing. The only thing I knew I had to test was some kind of spell that allowed me to shrink or enlarge my wings, with little to no additional information on it. Once I arrived at the large and familiar field, I went through everything from the beginning in my head.

I now have wings, which grew from me overnight. I need to hide them by the time I start school, but I also need to be able to control them properly. In order not to use Miyu's spell, or ask for her help, the only other possibility I have is to use some Light magic spell that allows for shrinking and enlarging of things. Father is currently asking Tanaka Rin, the Great Priest, for information on the spell.

As I was recollecting all the information, I noticed something odd. Light magic is for altering magicules in other living things. Wouldn't that mean that this spell could be either Alchemic, Light or Blood magic depending on who uses it on what? In case that was true, it would mean that the spell I would have to use on myself is actually one of Blood magic, and not Light magic.

I needed to do testing to confirm that theory. However, as I didn't know how to use neither Blood nor Light magic yet, I had to learn some basic spell that could be shared first. My first idea was some kind of spell to heal wounds, but I didn't have anything to test with. Additionally, Father would never agree to injure myself, and if I was to use a summon to test healing others, that would amount to Summoning magic.
