The children reached Alphys' lab, where Gaster is present. Alphys really doesn't care if an ancient scientist is conducting research or experiments, but as long as the space is shared, she's fine with it.

The kids soon went to Gaster's office, which is in it's own compartment of the laboratory. Develyn knocked on the door.

"Come in!" Gaster exclaimed.

The four kids soon opened the door. Gaster was excited to see them. He already knows Develyn, but was curious about the pair of siblings that are Frisk and Andy.

"Ahh, how's it going, Develyn and Asriel?" Gaster asked.

"It's going alright," Develyn answered.

"Good," Asriel answered.

"And I've never seen you two before. Who are you guys?" Gaster asked.

Frisk tried to answer first, but Andy was already quick on the gun. "I'm Andy, and this is my sister, Frisk," Andy answered.

"Frisk... That name seems familiar. The one who released the Monsters from the Underground, and saved the Prince from an unwanted fate again, isn't it?" Gaster explained.

"Yeah. That's me," Frisk answered.

"Awesome! What are you guys here for?" Gaster asked.

"Yesterday, we were out near Montrose, having a family picnic. Things were normal until an innocent looking child caused Develyn to save all of us. He said if he hesitated, someone would've died," Frisk explained.

"It's true," Develyn answered.

"What did this child look like?" Gaster asked.

"Pink hair, pink clothes. She even had a pink pet that resembled an orb," Develyn answered.

"Huh... That description matches the criminal that's still on the loose. I've actually done some research on her... It's way different," Gaster explained.

"What do you mean?" Andy asked.

"You see. The child might be called Betty, but her actual name is something more sinister. Her actual name is Bête Noire, which is French for "Black Beast". Black is a color mostly that symbolizes darkness, death, and hatred. That last work I said. "HATE." I'm pretty sure you have had that element thrown around you your whole have, haven't you?" Gaster explained.

"Yeah, it's a thing that decides our SOUL Positivity, along with our personality," Develyn answered.

"That's just the tip of the iceberg. What's below the surface is... A lot more sinister. Obviously, HATE is similar to Vengeance. Once a human reaches 50% hate, it reaches a state called "Borderline". Once it exceeds 50%, that's when OVERFLOW kicks in. It begins to manipulate the person in unimaginable ways.

"The HATE begins to cloud their minds, letting them make bad decisions. This leads to more violent actions, and an aggressive demeanor to go with it. Not only that, but it starts to spread more rapidly a little bit afterward. Obviously, 100% HATE is considered TOTAL OVERFLOW. Where it has complete control over it's host," Gaster explained.

"Wait... Host? Is it like a virus the only spreads when it wants to?" Asriel asked.

"Not really. Monsters can't have hate. If they were, it would be similar to a virus. To humans, and Dev, however, it's different. Each human is born with a different amount of hate, which obviously decides the stuff Dev mentioned earlier. However, that HATE is considered "Animosity" where it is controlled. HATE cannot be subtracted, but that is currently disputed. It can only be gained by issues  from other people over prolonged periods. Obviously, once it reaches OVERFLOW, it begins to take advantage of it's host," Gaster explained.

"Is there any way it CAN be defeated?" Andy asked.

"Well, as I said before, it can't truly be defeated. But there is one weakness. It is the most powerful spell of them all. I have a feeling all four of you know it," Gaster answered.

"Love..." Develyn answered.

"Exactly. Hate and Love are like matter and antimatter. They can't mix. One cancels over the other, vice versa. However, the HATE can truly be usurped from an individual if love exceeds it. Obviouly, this love isn't something from the saying, "I love you." It comes from a completely  different reality. This love is only shown in two ways: True love and memories. The memories pack a punch of it's own. The happy memories that were there provides something strong," Gaster explained.

"I don't have very many memories with my parents. They died when I was young," Develyn noted.

"You might not have many with them, but you have plenty with the Dreemurrs. But there's something that can boost love; vengeance. These two kinda go hand in hand with each other. This provides more dangerous power that one can wield, and HATE is considered to be done for at that point. Obviously, Vengeance OVERFLOW and love can make HATE rather meaningless," Gaster explained.

"So, you're telling me that one of us needs to have Vengeance OVERFLOW in order to defeat her? I'm at Borderline, Asriel doesn't have any Vengeance, as does Frisk. I don't even know how much Andy has," Develyn explained.

"Well, if you can say it that way... Andy, we need to do analysis on your SOUL at some point, see what's really going on. It doesn't have to be now," Gaster explained.

"OK," Andy noted.

"As for the SOUL Trait for this Beast. I've found something more unusual," Gaster explained.

"Like what?" Develyn asked.
