Chapter 7: SOUL Purity

While Gaster was getting things ready for the kids to witness what truly happened all those years ago and on how to defeat Bête Noire, he finds something unusual while he's studying human SOULs. Not very many SOULs are in the system, so Gaster doesn't have much. Mostly for reference, he's using Develyn and Frisk's SOULs.

He noticed something golden among the lining of Develyn's SOUL, but it was very faint, very thin. The same can be said for Frisk. He looked at other human SOULs, they were showing the same thing also. Some were appearing very thin, while some were thicker than others.

"Alphys!" Gaster shouted upon his alarming discovery.

"What is it, Gaster?" Alphys asked.

"Come look, I found something myserious," Gaster responded.

Alphys soon got a look at the monitor where Gaster had the pictures. The circles were key parts Alphys had to look.

"What is that gold thing sitting there? The only secondary trait that has gold is love, but love is hidden," Alphys asked.

"Well, let's if there is any documentation about this," Gaster explained. Alphys perused through the library in the lab, which is mostly documents on past findings, as well as Alphys' findings through her experiments, even the time where she experimented Determination on Monsters, she had findings on as well, but she would forget about it. She regrets the time the creatures had their features blurred, warped, and distortred.

She was unable to find anything, so that left her one thing; simulation. Alphys usually uses a simulator for her research. She uses an artificial SOUL from a human or Monster and runs them through a series of tests to determine the results.

"Well, I can't find anything, so I guess I'll teach you how to use the simulator," Alphys added.

"OK," Gaster noted.

Alphys created a SOUL that had properties similar to Frisk, but with magical enhancements.

"OK, let's try it with 5% of this myserious secondary trait. See what that gets us. We'll use 0% as a control," Alphys explained. Gaster pressed start. Already, the differences were shown. The total damage was higher for the SOUL with 5% of the mysterious trait. Alphys tried it with 10%, the damage was double than that of the SOUL with 5%.

"I'm starting to see a little trend here. Let's try with 25%, see if that does anything," Gaster noted.

"I wouldn't jump that far ahead, unless you know the formula," Alphys stated.

"5n+x. The coefficient is how much the attack power is modified, and x is for base magic," Gaster answered.

"Wow... OK," Alphys responded.

The test was run at 25%. Fair enough, Gaster's formula worked. Alphys tried it at 50%, and the formula still worked. Feeling confident with the formula, Alphys tried it at 75%, but the results were far different than she anticipated. The results also stunned Gaster.

"What happened. Why this high of a number?" Alphys asked.

"Try 51%," Gaster answered. The differences were subtle, but it was enough for Gaster to work something out.

"So, this is a piecewise scenario. The new formula is 260 times 1.484912, raised by the x power, minus 100 billion," Gaster explained. The equation blew Alphys away. The number was also extremely high as well.

"Are you sure that this is the equation!?" Alphys asked.

"Yes. I'm sure of it," Gaster answered. Alphys tried again at 75%, the number was starting to register as OVERFLOW.

After the trials, they quickly noted that modifier for the SOUL increases physical attack output. From base to 50% the progress is linear, while 50% or above is considered exponential.

Gaster called this trait Purity, as the more pure the SOUL, the more dangerous the attacks. The plugged this in to Frisk and Develyn's SOULs. The results were unique. Develyn has 55% SOUL Purity, putting him in the OVERFLOW category, while Frisk has 30%.

"Well, this is promising for a new secondary trait. Let's see if it actually works," Gaster noted.

"Yeah... Speaking of which, don't you have anything to do?" Alphys asked.

"Oh! That's right! Thanks for reminding me," Gaster answered.

Gaster soon grabbed the book he was reading earlier about the Black Beast. He tore out select pages the Dreemurrs want to see and he set them beside the Pensieve.

The findings Gaster and Alphys made of SOUL Purity were starting spread across the world. The knowledge of humans has finally expanded, with more expansion bound to be coming soon.
