In Hunger Games it was Jerome. On Skype it was Rob. Never me though. Mitch had a special friend for everything. For each game he played he had a partner, but it was never me. Lachlan was always shipped with Vikk, and it was cute when they had vikklan moments, but if be lying if I said I didn't find the second half of vikklan to be hot as fudge. When Lachlan, Mitch, and Jerome moved in together, even the fans stopped noticing me. It's like I didn't even exist anymore. I never got asked to join recordings, since any of the three could just walk through a hallway, or yell down the stairs for a recording buddy. They didn't need me. No one did. Why care about little Lava P when you could have the Bacca or the Aussie or the Benja? "Hi Preston." The soft exclamation from my headphones jerked me out of my twisted thinking. It was Mitch. Handsome, Beautiful Mitch, who didn't give a fudge about me. "hey dood." I said dejectedly. looking up at the screen, Mitch's webcam showed him as a mirror image of my sad eyes and slouched posture. "Hey. What's wrong bro?" I asked. He looked adorable when he was upset, and I had to convince myself not to stare. "I got in a fight." his voice was quiet and timid. "with Jerome." I hardly registered what he was saying, being too busy staring at his beautiful face. "I- I can't deal with this anymore!" His shout brought me out of my reverie for the second time that day, along with the echoed smash as he punched his desk, wincing. "hey! Shhh shhh! Calm down Mitch! It's ok!" I said desperately. Mitch was full on crying right now, his arms folded across his chest, rubbing up and down on the opposite arms. for a second, his hoodie sleeve rode up, exposing his tanned skin. what surprised me though, wasn't his Florida-Skin, but the dark bruises that littered it. "Mitch. what is that?" I ask firmly. He breaks down in tears again, but before he can answer, there is a knock on the door. Mitch cowers in fear. "Who- who is it?" He says, sounding frightened. "it's Lachlan, don't worry," comes the muffled voice from the other side of the door. Mitch visibly relaxes, and walks to the door, opening it for a very upset looking Aussie, who limps into the room. He looks close to collapse and Mitch holds him up, locking the door behind them and half-carrying Lachlan to the bed, laying him down in sight of the camera. Lachlan groans feebly as his back touches the blankets. I'm confused, but worried as fudge for my two... friends. "ok what the fudge happened to you two?" I inquire. Mitch looks at Lachlan, who nods, then turns back to the screen. His voice lowers to a whisper. "it's- it's Jerome. He's been... Hurting us." I gasp, and quickly cover my mouth with my hand. Mitch stares at the floor and Lachlan blushes. "what?" I breathe out, aghast. Mitch looks into my eyes. "it started when we all moved in together. I um... confessed my feelings for Lachlan." I nod, listening attentively, but my heart is sinking to my feet. Mitch and Lachlan. Lachlan and Mitch. Not Preston. Mitch continues. "Jerome didn't like it." I tilt my head to one side. "Jerome is homophobic?" That's not what I expected. he's always been one to ship himself with everyone, boys and girls. "No. Worse then that. Jerome liked Lachlan." At this point Lachlan sits up on the bed, still obviously in pain. He starts talking where Mitch left off. "Jerome got mad at Mitch because I love Mitch and not him. He started-" Lachlan has tears in his eyes but he keeps explaining. "he hurt Mitch. every day he would- he would hit him. and I was worthless. I couldn't help. I couldn't protect Mitch." He stares at the ground, crying. "that's a lie." Mitch says. "Lachlan tried to help me. every day he would fight Jerome. Jerome was just too angry to be taken down. he started to..." He trails off, and Lachlan's face turns a bright red. "Did he- no!" I say, as I register the meaning behind Mitch's uncertainty, and Lachlan's limp, as well as blush. "I'm coming over." I say, the tone of my voice leaving no opportunity for question. Mitch starts, staring at me, and Lachlan's gorgeous eyes widen. "No! Preston you can't! Jerome will keep you locked up here, just like he does to us!" Lachlan stumbles over his words as he rushes to change my mind, but I can't be diverted now. I am decided. "see you two in a bit. hang in there guys." I say, and turn my computer to standby, cutting off the protests of the two most handsome men in the world. as fast as I can, I pack a duffel bag with essentials for maybe a day or two, then book a flight online to Philadelphia, and from there one to Florida. It was either take the two flights, or wait until next week, which wasn't an option.
The moment the second plane landed, I was up and out of the vehicle. Since I didn't bring anything other than a duffel bag, I didn't have to go through any baggage claim lines, and I was able to rent a car almost immediately after exiting the airport. Pulling out my phone, I set the Banter Boys house as my destination. Instead of parking in the driveway, I decided to park down the road, as to not alert Jerome of my presence. I also took extra precautions in entering, lightly tapping on Mitch's window, which thank fudge was downstairs. Lachlan was in the room too, and he was the first to notice my tapping. He tried to get up, thought better of it, and pointed to the window. Mitch quickly ran over, fumbling with the lock before opening the glass entryway. As I crawl over the windowsill, Mitch bombards me with protests about how it's not safe for me to be here. I ignore him. Lachlan is more composed, greeting me profusely when I lean down to hug him. It feels so right, but they're dating. They have each other. "Preston..." Mitch exclaims from behind me. "we were talking about this before you got here, Lachlan and I, and we felt like we kinda have to tell you." I cock my head to the side questioningly, asking him to continue. "please don't hate us, but Lachy and I both like another person..." like, other then each other? What? A thought crosses my mind. "oh no... Please tell me it's not Jerome..." Mitch gasps, and shakes his head violently. Lachlan answers though. "NO! Of course not! The other person is... Well- it's you Preston." My jaw drops, and the two boys cringe at my response. "I- what?" I say, confused, excited, and skeptical at the same time. "do you hate us?" Lachlan asks timidly. "What! No! I um... I l- love you. both of you." I blush and look at the ground. Lachlan is about to respond, but he gets cut off by a smash as the door to the room flies back on its hinges, hitting the wall with massive force. in the doorway stands Jerome. he is red-faced, seething with anger. a small part of me wants to run and hide from the frightening sight, but the majority of my heart and soul are what cause me to step in front of Mitch and Lachlan, shielding them with my body. Jerome lets out a feral growl and charges at me. I duck his first punch, causing it to swing harmlessly over my head. as he's off balance, I press my fingers into the soft spot between his ribs and stomach, sending him, gasping, away. I circle for another attack, aiming my outstretched hand for his. Using a little trick that a fan taught me, I hold his wrist in place with one hand, using my fingers on the nail of his thumb, to push it into his palm. Jerome screeches in pain, clutching his hand. hitting the pressure point on his neck with my index finger, Jerome collapses to the ground, unconscious. I turn back to Mitch and Lachlan. "you two are moving in to my place." I brace myself for protest, but all I get is Lachlan raising his hand tentatively, as if he were in school. I nod towards him, indicating that he can speak. "We would love to move in with you, but under one condition." he smiles. "that we move in, not as victims, but as boyfriends." I cover my mouth with my hand. "m- me?" I stutter, and they both nod. I grin. "I'd love to." Mitch pulls me foreword and kisses me on the lips, taking my breath away, before shoving me towards Lachlan, who does the same.
"I love you guys." I say, and I genuinely mean it. for the first time in a long while, I am happy.
