(I'm sorry if this isn't how schools work in the UK. Also, even though I don't find most curse words offensive, the one that I do is f*g, so I censored it)
Simon hadn't recalled slamming his locker shut, but suddenly, instead of facing its messy interior, he was reeling as the metal door whizzed past his face, closing with a loud bang.
"Sup bitch." Said a smug, drawling voice. Simon glanced to his side, and it felt like a rock was sinking in his stomach. The boy who was leaning against his locker had a stony face, and hair full of too much gel. He reeked of too much axe body spray. Simon turned away and began to walk. The boy's name was Sam, and Simon had been his punching bag for all of sixth grade. Ever since seventh grade started, a week ago, Simon had held his breath, hoping that Sam maybe didn't go to his school anymore, or wouldn't be able to find his locker, but he supposed he was never really a lucky guy.
It wouldn't even be such a big deal either. Simon could deal with the constant name-calling and casual punches, but one big thing had changed between this year and last. This year, Ethan was officially in the middle school with him. Simon's one-year-younger-brother had a history of having a short temper, and Simon didn't want him to have to deal with anyone like Sam.
"Are you scared?" Sam asked mockingly. He was walking backwards in front of Simon, and he leaned foreword at his statement, throwing Simon a crooked grin. Not that it would ever be allowed by his pride admit it, but he was scared. Really really scared. He stayed silent, swerving around Sam and increasing his pace.
If he could only... get to- class-
No. It was never that easy. Simon knew what was coming, and sure enough, Sam's brutish body slammed into him from the side, throwing him harshly against the lockers. Simon felt his head snap to the side and hit one of the padlocks. His books scattered over the floor, and he slid to the ground. He could only think that it was a good thing the hallway was almost empty.
"Ha. I don't know why you even try to walk away anymore you anorexic-looking piece of shit." Sam spat at Simon, who squeezed his eyes shut. His younger brother saw him as a role model. Ethan looked up to him, but really, what was he but a useless piece of garbage.
"Yo what the fu-... Simon!?" The familiar voice cut through Simon like a blade, and his eyes shot open. There he was, Ethan, his eyes widened in horrified shock. Simon wanted to yell at him to run, he wanted to beat up Sam and show Ethan how strong he could be, but he couldn't move.
"Who are you?" Sam turned, advancing on Ethan. "The fuck are you doing? You know this f*g?"
Ethan's fear turned to anger immediately, and Simon's heart sank. Ethan was already losing his temper. He'd be better off to just leave.
"Actually, I do. And I don't fucking appreciate people beating up my brother." He cracked his knuckle. Ethan may have been built big, but his muscled form looked small in comparison to Sam, who was grinning.
"You have a brother, Simon?" He mocked, not looking back at Simon, who was struggling to his feet. "Oh I get it, if Simon's the anorexic one, you must be the fat one!"
Ethan's eyes darkened, and Simon cursed quietly. He didn't want this to happen. Ethan was his younger brother. Simon was supposed to look out for him, and protect him.
"Ethan just go, please." He begged. "It's not worth it!"
Ethan scowled at him.
"Were you really planning not to tell me about this?" He asked, and dodged under a lazy punch thrown by Sam. "You should know." He turned his attention to Sam, but his words were still directed at Simon.
"You should know, that we're a family. Our job is to stand up for each other despite everything, and nothing will ever stop me from protecting you." He punched Sam directly in the nose. "If it had been Josh, or Tobi, or even Vik that had found you here, they would have done the same as me." He ducked under another punch and kicked Sam in the ribs. The boy wheezed out a curse.
"And I would hope, that if you had seen the same thing happening to me, that you would- mmph!" Ethan's angry voice broke off as Sam hit him across the ear, but recovered quickly enough to grab on to the collar of Sam's shirt and throw him against a locker. The boy slumped, glaring and wiping a sleeve across his split lip. Ethan breathed heavily and finished his statement.
"I would hope, no, I know, that you would fight just as hard for me, because." He glared at Sam. "If you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us."
