It started where the grass was green
Trees were scarce and far between

Vikah stepped foreword timidly, her delicate tan foot crushing the vibrant grass, coating it with a layer of crystal dew that cooled in the light wind, and letting out a fragrant scent of spring. The sky was a creamy white-blue, and there were a couple of wizened mangled Elms that stretched to the distant horizon.

Hair was flying, gentle breeze
Dress was spiraling round her knees.

Vikah breathed in the soft perfume of the wind as it turned her hair from its long mass of flowing deep brown locks to wispy strands that wrapped around her face.

She built her castle, built her grave
Trapped herself in a limestone cage

Her kingdom loomed before her, the light green stone towers dusted with the morning sun. It was perfect, yet Vikah still felt a sadness fill her small body.

Her towers high the flags were flying.
But in a breath her world was dying.

"My queen." The low voice startled Vikah. She turned around to address the owner of the voice.

"Yes Lachlan?" She said tiredly to the knight. He was wearing a shining metal headband with a blue gem, signifying that he was one of the queens elite. He also wore a casual hardened leather vest and long deep green tunic, as well as tight black pants and knee high leather boots. To top it off he had a shining silver sword in a rope loop at his hip.

"You seem unhappy m'lady. Is something troubling thee?"

Vikah sighed.

Cause the city is falling down tonight
The skies are grey, they once were blue.
The city is falling down tonight
There's nothing she can do
But watch it burn.

"Lachlan... I built an empire from nothing. I have faithful subjects at my beck and call. So why do I feel so empty?" She murmured. Lachlan frowned.

Swords had crossed and arrows flown
To keep her haven, to save her home.
The walls she always hid behind
Rebuilt stronger every time.

"If I may be so bold..." Lachlan said questioningly. The queen nodded him to continue. "We live in a beautiful land. We have fought to protect your kingdom from neighboring Kings, but have become secluded. For your own safety, m'lady, your advisors have kept you in your castle, free from harm, but also free from adventure."

She fortified her future here
But still resigned to live in fear

The queen turned to Lachlan, her eyes shining. "I fear your words may be true, my knight. Please, if it isn't too much to ask of thee, show me the adventure I seek. Let me see the world behind the windows of thy castle tower.

Life in the hands of her empire
But her eyes aflame and her world on fire.

Lachlan nodded, whistling a high trill. In seconds, hoof beats were distinguishable, and a white horse appeared in the distance, cantering toward the two figures. His mane was laced with silver, and his saddle and bridle were black. As he approached, Lachlan grabbed his bridle in one hand, swinging one leg over the saddle. He held out a hand to Vikah, and she grabbed it, sliding up gracefully behind the knight, riding sidesaddle.

The city is falling down tonight
Her towers crumble, her castle falls

The wind tousled Vikah's hair as she wrapped her small arms around Lachlan's muscular chest, leaning her head into his back. Lachlan blushed but smiled, urging his horse to even greater speeds, spurred by the queen's angelic laughter. They passed shires and towns, flying through the land before turning toward the forest of spruce trees that circled back to the Kingdom. Slowly the queen lifted her head up from Lachlan's back, sitting up straight and letting out a beautiful sigh, her hair flying out behind her like an ocean.

The city is falling down tonight
The siege she laid had encased her walls.

As the horse slowed in a peaceful clearing on the outskirts of Queen Vikah's land, Vikah jumped off, landing clumsily in the grass, and lying flat on her back, her face flushed with adrenaline and cool air, smiling lightly. Lachlan reigned in his horse, dismounting and walking to the Queen, kneeling beside her.

"Thank you, Lachlan." She said, beaming up at him. "I feel more alive than I ever have before." Lachlan only nodded, his strict knightly training keeping him from accepting a compliment from the queen. Vikah sighed at his stiffness and sat up, flinging her arms around the Knight and making him fall back into the grass. Her lips were inches away from his.

"Lachy, thou hath done so much for me. You've helped me realize how to live. And for that I love you, my handsome Knight. With that she closed the distance between them, pressing her lips to Lachlan's.

She can't stay Here
No ones there to save her
She can't run Away
Her decisions already made.

Lachlan hesitated, before propping himself up on one elbow, wrapping the other around the queen's head, deepening the kiss. As they pulled away, Vikah stared into Lachlan's eyes.

"I know my fate is to stay here and rule my kingdom. I can't leave thy people, but the burden on my heart would be lessened if thou agreed to be my king, and stay beside me, and love me. You have shown me what it means to be alive."

Lachlan could only nod.
