ADELAIDE

By the evening, we had reached the entrance of the tunnel.

"Still wanna get in?" Sonya asks all of us. We all nod.

"Let's go then."

Please, please don't get caught by WICKED.

We all walk through the dark tunnel. There is no Crank and I am thankful for that. I don't want to use up my energy in fighting the Cranks.

Who knows if I need to fight for getting my squad out of mess?

Once we'd passed out the tunnel, we are met with dozens of cars, creating a blockage. We are surrounded by tall walls of the mountain.

We walk among the car wrecks. Crickets chirps at the distance and though the mountains are empty, I can't help the feel that I am being watched.

I swallow the lump in my throat and carry on walking, scanning the road for hiding people. Weather here is slightly cooler and the grass is greener. Metal railings at the edge of the cliff are twisted and rusted.

We walk past the cars, lights from the flashlights guiding us. We look inside the cars as we pass by. Some had small holes on the windows windshield and metal, too small to be dents and too big to be cracks. My eyes quickly look at the top of the mountains.

That's when I realize.

It can't be that silent in the mountain top. Which means there's something scaring the animals enough to steer them away from here.

Suddenly I hear a loud bang, and bullet rains down on us. The bullets ricochet madly at any direction. My hands instinctively grab the one nearest to me and I pull the person behind a car.

Sonya crouches as low as she can, her eyes darting around wildly in fear. I hear the shattering is a window and we all duck, covering our heads and then everything is silent. Sonya clicks the flashlight off, and clutches it against her chest.

No one of us even dared to move.

"Is everyone still alive?" I whisper-yell. I sigh in relief to hear all the girls responding us.

A tense moment passes and the bullets begin to rain again. I see Sonya, flinching as one of the bullets hit our car. Jocelyn mutters something to Harriet and they shuffle.

"Girls! Get set to sprint back to the tunnels! And cover your ears." Harriet whisper-yells.

"What is she planning?" I ask Sonya. She thinks for a moment before her eyes widens, and her jaw hangs. "She's using the bomb." She whispers.
