He called me one morning. He said he is waiting at the cafe downstairs. I hurriedly picked up my floor length silk kimono to cover my lounge tank and shorts. I checked myself in the mirror, gave my hair a quick brush, and hurried down to meet him.

I saw him sitting at one of the tables. He saw me approaching and turned toward me. He opened his arms and I stepped in between his legs. He snaked his arms around my waist, and rested the side of his face on my stomach. Natawa ako ng konti at ginulo ang buhok niya.

"What's going on?" I loved that he randomly showed up here to see me.

"I love you. Can you please behave?" He looked up at me without removing his arms around me waist.

"What do you mean?"

"I will be away for a few days to attend a business meeting in Singapore. Can you please behave?" He explained and repeated his question.

"When are you leaving?"

"Tomorrow early morning," he answered. "It will probably take three to five days. Depends on how the transaction with our client will go. But I will be right back ASAP."

"Okayyy..." I cupped his face using both of my hands while he continued looking up at me pleading.

"Promise me," he said and shook me a little.

"Okay! Okay! But it's not like I would misbehave. Mabait kaya ako!" I stated my strongest trait.

His eyes turned to slits. Halatang hindi naniniwala. Natatawa siyang kumalas sa akin, umusog nang konti sa upuan at hinila ako patabi sa kanya. Umupo din ako doon.

He took a small piece of the carrot cake in front of him and offered it to me. I slowly opened my mouth to take it. He offered me his glass of orange juice. I took a sip before turning to him.

"Anong gagawin mo habang wala ako?" Tanong niya.

"The usual. School and work." Sinagot ko naman like hindi niya alam iyon.

"Usual? Your usual includes going to the bar somewhere in there." Aba at pinagdududahan na naman ako nito.

"No! You know I haven't been to those places kapag hindi ka kasama," depensa ko sa sarili ko. Hindi naman ako pinagbabawalan pero naging busy na rin ako sa school, internship, at sa kanya. I would rather spend time with him than party.

"Do you realize where I picked you up last time?" Nakakunot na naman ang noo niyang tanong.

"Oh! Hindi counted 'yon kasi birthday ni Janice!" Medyo natameme ako doon.

"Uh-huh... But you left the party and went clubbing instead." Nagdududa pa ring salaysay niya sa aking buhay. "Almost got shitfaced if hindi kita inabutan at inalis agad doon."

"Shitfaced talaga? Pinaalam ko kaya sa'yo saan ako para makuha mo 'ko doon," medyo lumakas ang tawa ko sa mga pinagsasabi niya.

We spent the whole time arguing and affirming I would behave while he is away to Singapore. Hinatid niya ako sa unit ko before midnight. He kissed my lips goodbye. He made me promise to behave one last time before finally turning to go.

I behaved, alright. I followed the exact routine. I would attend my last two remaining classes in the morning. Ngayong wala siya, I eat lunch with my friends before going to Taft Towers and work the whole afternoon for my internship.

We would usually grab dinner together before he would drop me off at home. Minsan napipilit ko siyang doon ako matutulog sa condo niya.

It was Friday afternoon and the office got a little busier than usual. I was told by my manager to bring some documents to his office. It needed to be signed right away. Turnaround time for documents via the company's e-mail is usually 24-46 hours.
