Present.
"I will cancel our contract. I will pay all the penalties," he formally informed me. "I want nothing to do with you, Ella."
"I know. I have always known that." I plastered my sweetest smile to assure him this is not new information to me either. "I will have my secretary deal with this matter and send all the important documents to end this transaction. You know you could have just cancelled it via text or e-mail, right?"
I grabbed my purse, stood up, held my head high, and walked towards the door. I turned around to look at him one last time. I raised my hand, wiggled my fingers a little before blowing him a kiss.
"It was nice seeing you again. Goodbye, Mark."
I winked at him and turned around.
Sabay ng pagtalikod ko ay ang pagkalaho ng aking matamis na ngiti. I am just thankful na hindi pumatak ang luha ko bago pa man ako tuluyang nakaalis.
I am okay.
This is okay.
I am alright.
Everything's alright.
The elevator tings open when it reached the bottom level of their lobby. I hastened, wanting to leave as soon as I can. I refuse to run out of there looking like a defeated lion. No queen of the jungle would run away from their enemies.
Krista came striding in through the large revolving doors. She paused for a bit when she noticed me walking toward her direction. I continued walking like her presence here is not crushing my heart and soul.
I knew about them. This should not come as a surprise. She is the lead. I was the extra character who tried to become relevant. But everything's back in its original place.
"H-hi! What a surprise seeing you here," she awkwardly greeted me when we came closer.
"Business. I was just leaving," I gave her a faint smile before stepping out of her way toward the exit.
"It was nice seeing you again," she added as she also tried to step out of my way.
"Likewise. Take care. Bye now." I am not so sure about that. I answered out of social niceties.
Mark stepped out of the elevator. He hurried to our direction. Is he that excited to meet her? I hurried out of there before I witness how they cling to one another as a greeting.
I exited their building and never looked back. I have always known I was the girl he never wanted. Pero masakit pa rin pala talaga. Tumulo ang luha ko sa loob ng taxi pero agad ko itong pinalis.
Nagpahatid ako sa Presidio Heights kung nasaan ang condo ni Luriel. He already left for Bacolod to check on the cattle farm and grazing. He does it regularly in the last few months in preparation for his takeover in that area when Mr. Yakamoto has to leave.
Tita Isabella found out that I am still in the city. She forced me to attend the dinner. I wanted to refuse, but she said Mark and his family will not be there. So, I decided to attend. It has been a long time since I have seen the nuns and priests. I think I miss them too.
I switched into my casual clothes appropriate for the monastery dinner before having Manong Rudy drop me off. I will have Tita Isabella bring me back.
