HAPPY PLACE
We are at Happy Place, an orphanage I started to take in orphans whose relatives refused or do not have enough means to take care of them. My mom stays here and manages the place. Mary is here too after she lost both parents four years ago. She had the surgery she so much needed to save her life when I first met her.
I gave the money directly to Tita Isabella's charity foundation and they made the arrangement to get her the surgery. She recovered but needed routine checkups throughout the years. I just got back from the US when Tita Isabella told me about what happened to her parents.
She is the very first orphan I took in and she inspired the start of the orphanage and basically every aspect of the whole town. I wanted to provide her everything she needs.
I had a building built so that we could take more kids in. I also added a school to provide free education for the kids in our community especially children of the workers in our hacienda. Although we are getting funding from the government and teachers are paid by them, I made sure the kids get the most of their education.
I renovated the old buildings of the old school, added facilities, and provided supplies for learning. The older children get scholarships so that they could still attend college even if their parents could not afford it. No minimum grade requirement as long as they pass and finish on time and give back to their parents and the community.
I also paid attention to the health and medical needs of our little community. I revamped the small clinic and equipped it with medical tools and supplies.
We also hired a few more family care physicians and at least two specialists. Our workers get free care and hospitalization there. Hindi na kailangang humayo sa kabilang lungsod para sa basic care for pediatrics, elderly, men, and women care. I also added a mental health care specialist recently. People do not need to go to the city except for major procedures and surgeries.
I basically helped make our town self-sufficient. Iyon nga lang naubos ang sariling pera ko. I used every cent of my income into those projects. The profits we get from every area in the hacienda get returned into the community. Ruby calls me the poorest haciendera.
We produce our own food through farming. Each family gets a sack of rice every month. If we have higher returns and already met the demand and orders from our clients, they get all of the extra supplies for a very low cost.
Overall, it is my little world created to keep people happy and safe. I could easily trap myself in and limit my exposure to the outside world. The once loose life I have lived has turned into a recluse. No one calls me Ella here too. I am Teddy to them. I buried Ella when I was shut down by enemies.
Teddy rose from the ashes when she defeated Satan on her final struggle to escape from his clutches. I refuse to party with him any longer. I realized he tricked me into thinking it was fun, but it was his way of making sure I keep going back so that I could not see the light outside his dark pit. I cannot keep on dancing with the devil and wonder why I am still in hell.
Like a snake crawling out of its own skin, the process was uncomfortable. But I emerged with my new vibrant skin as I wait for it to get older and shed again until its end. Between hellish experiences and promising opportunities, life does nothing but constantly slip away. Time is nothing but a measure of decay anyway.
Anna had to stop hugging it and stood aside.
