SHARING YOU WITH OTHERS

I am currently parked outside the church, contemplating whether I should go down. It has been weeks since I last attended the dinner with Tita Isabella and Sister Joy. I am afraid he would show up with his family there. Or worse bring Krista, his female lead, with them.

I hugged my steering wheel while thinking. I was gripping my phone ready to text Tita na hindi ako makakadalo. Then a knock on the driver's side window disturbed my thoughts. Mark stood outside my door. I ignored him. I asked to become strangers, remember?

He knocked again. I waved him off.

I mouthed "What?" to him.

He signalled for me to roll my windows down.

I rolled it an inch down. He chuckled, "Let's go in."

"No, I am just about to leave." Then I turned on my car.

Biglang tumawa ang gago. He knocked on my window again, "Can you just open this please?"

"What do you need? You've been here before. Hindi ka na mawawala dito. Adios!" And I gently pressed on my gas to inch forward.

"Fuck! Ella, stop it. Can you talk to me please?" I could hear him as he moved away from my car.

I opened my window. He leaned down closer. "I want a clean slate too."

"Sure. Strangers. Bye!"

"Can you just get down for a bit. Mag-usap tayong mabuti," he tried to convince me.

I turned off my car and got down. I am getting pissed at this shit. Is he fucking with me? We agreed to let it go and live our stranger lives.

He walked toward the side garden. A little away from the parking lot and the main pathway para hindi kami madaanan ng iba pang darating.

"What else do you need, stranger?"

"Why aren't you going in for the dinner?" Imbestigador mode si mahal ko.

"May gagawin pa 'ko," I lied.

"Cut the crap. Nasa labas tayo," I rolled my eyes at him.

Tumawa siya. He stepped closer. "What did you mean when you said I lied to you too?"

Kumunot ang aking noo. Hindi ko masyadong maalala kasi sobrang emotional ko during those days. But I am pretty sure it was about his date with Krista.

"Oh! Iyon ba? Wala na 'yon." Sabay wasiwas ko ng aking kamay sa harapan namin.

"Stop bullshitting me, Ella. What was it?" Persistent talaga ha.

"You said hindi mo girlfriend, hindi nililigawan, hindi liligawan pero may date package?" Tumatawa kong sagot to cover up the creeping jealousy.

"What date?" Nagtataka pa rin siya.

"Iyong sinundo mo siya para sa importanteng gagawin," I reminded him. "When you turned me down for brunch, remember?"

"It wasn't a date." He denied it.
