FOREVER

People were running amuck when I entered the lobby of the location for her convention. Josie was on one side trying to pull a guard along with her.

Her hair was disheveled, eyes were teary red from irritation. I quickly called for her and asked about Ella.

She noticed me approaching and rushed to me hysterically crying. She was panicking as she pulled my arm to follow her. With how she was acting, I was immediately terrified for Ella.

"Si Miss po! May mga humaharang sa kanila!" Umiiyak niyang tinuro ang fire exit. "Buti nakalagpas po ako para humingi ng tulong."

"Call for medics first then call Dr. Hall." I instructed Josie as I rushed to the fire exit and ran through nine floors.

I was out of breath mostly from so much fear for her. In my most desperate need to reach her location, the steps just seemed endless.

When my conference ended, I came here to pick her up. All previous conventions she had attended were all fine. The security team was with her. But for the only time that I was not with her, this happened.

I hated it so much that every time something bad happens to her, I was not there to protect her. I knew she could protect herself, but I look away for a second and she's in danger. That is why I have been happy that she's been wanting to latch onto me 24/7 these past few days.

Bleeding, unconscious men were on the stairs and the floor. I immediately saw her propped against the wall. My body shivered from so much dread because she was covered in blood.

"No, no, no. This cannot be happening!" I rushed to her.

I caught her in my arms before she slumped on the floor. She weakly looked at me. Tears streaming from the sides of her eyes before she lost consciousness. She closed her eyes and never opened them again. I held her upright trying to find the right position to bring breath to her limp, bloody body.

She was surrounded by unconscious people. Some were members of her security. Others were her attackers. One person in particular had his head gravely bashed against the floor. He was unrecognizable, but I knew who that person was based on his burn scars and one missing ear.

I pressed my hand on the badly bleeding wound on her side. I yelled for help and medics rushed through the door. They rushed her to the closest hospital.

Dr. Hall came to join a simultaneous interprofessional surgery for our child and Ella. The other surgeons were having a hard time because she had a collapsed lung. The baby was generally unharmed but had a weakening heartbeat. He was also at risk because his mother is on the brink of death.

A few minutes since her surgery started, Mang Cardo was also wheeled in for surgery, along with the rest of her security team. I was filled with worry for all of them. It was their job to protect her, but I never wished that they would have to lose their own lives doing it. She would be devastated if that happens.

My father, brother, and grandparents came to my side outside the operating room. I frantically tried to figure out what to do. I was frightened, uncertain about the outcome. Even with my family bustling around me to reassure me that she will pull through, I felt entirely alone without her by my side.

Her father and members of his family came rushing a few hours since it happened. My father had detailed today's events while they were on their way here.

"We give you a chance and you fuck it up again!" Her Kuya Nathan was quick to grab me by my collar.

"I'm sorry. I never meant for it to happen." I wished he had punched me so that I could temporarily forget my agony for her.
