Iraenna Viv Fuentes

I stood in the middle of a dark stage. Waiting for my cue.

I looked around the stadium was silent as if holding their breath with me too.

"Please welcome! From Dapitan City, Iraenna Viv Fuentes! Contestant number 8 is a 17-year-old nursing student from University of San Carlos Cebu. She believes that 'Life is about creating yourself'. Contestant number 8, Iraenna Viv Fuentes!"

Iyon ang pakilala ng emcee sa akin na sinalubong ng isang masigabong palakpakan at hiyawan ng aking mga kaibigan at kakilala.

After a few seconds, the crowd feel silent, and everything went dark. Everybody is waiting for me to start.

The spotlight over my head suddenly put me at the center of everyone's attention. Not a single sound could be heard throughout the stadium.

I leaned into the microphone and started the first verse in slow acapella.

Lift your head, Viv, don't be scared
Of the things that could go wrong along the way
You'll get by with a smile
You can't win at everything, but you can try

My soft angelic voice echoed throughout the whole stadium. People held their breath listening to every word as if I was telling them my story.

I looked around the dark stadium. In the middle of the crowd, I felt alone. No one else is there. Just like in life, I must do this journey alone. In some days, I just have to create my own sunshine.

Then the whole band came to life as I started singing the second verse. A dim light illuminated the whole stage. Each band member is highlighted with a Fresnel, and their instruments wrapped in luminous neon purple.

Viv, you don't have to worry
'Cause there ain't no need to hurry
No one ever said that there's an easy way
When they're closing all their doors
And they don't want you anymore
This sounds funny, but I'll say it anyway

Zeke arranged the song differently to fit their time limit and the delivery of the song. He removed the third verse.

I picked up my violin and joined the whole band in a genre-crossing music from the fourth verse. People went crazy as we picked up our tempo during the fifth verse.

We slowed it down at the end of the fifth verse, as I put down my violin to sing to the microphone. I sang the sixth verse really slowly as I closed my eyes to savor every line.

'Cause in a world where everybody hates
a happy ending story
It's a wonder love can make the world go 'round
But don't let it bring you down
and turn your face into a frown
You'll get along with a little prayer and a song

Let me hear you sing it!

I yelled to the last line to the crowd as I pointed my bow at them. They went crazy and sang in chorus.

(To-do-do-do)
(To-do-do-do)
(To-do-do-do, do-do)

I played the violin along with the band and the people singing. It becomes a bonding moment for the whole stadium. It heightened the sense of community and belonging.

(Do-do, do-do).....

I hit the last note. Zeke added a fermata in it, and we followed exactly what he suggested. We prolonged the note beyond its normal duration before abruptly putting a stop to everything.
