Jian had gone to bed a bit late that night but figured it would be okay because she did that in America all the time. Maybe not in the first day of school but whatever.
She grabbed her red book bag, her father had put pencils and pens and a notebook in the day before, and walked out of her bedroom. The skirt on the uniform kept riding up but Jian wasn't to concerned about it. The uniform was a plaid black and red skirt with a white button up shirt with a grey jacket to wear over it as well as a tie in the same colors as the skirt.
She honestly didn't mind it but she didn't like her she didn't have the freedom to choose what to wear.
"Bye dad!" She yelled loudly into the apartment before leaving. Instead of taking the elevator to get out of the building she took the stairs. She thought it would be quicker and ovoid more people.
She hurried down the stairs and through a door leading to the doors to get out of the apartment complex. She exited and made a right to head towards the direction of the bus stop her father had told her to go to.
As she walked she looked around. In the distance she could see the good part of the city Seoul. She didn't live in the best part of the city. Most people would say poor part of the city. She found the bus stop and saw a few other people waiting as well. She counted her money. Her father had given her money to ride the bus. It wasn't very much money. 1,100 won.
She waited and waited for the bus to show up. Eventually it did. Everyone got in the bus and handed the bus driver money.
Jian sat down in an empty seat. She looked around and saw a boy in a similar uniform in the seat across from hers.
When it was time to get off the bus, she grabbed her book bag from where she had set it on the floor by her feet and walked off the bus, the boy following behind her.
She walked for a while until she saw the big school in front of her. She took a deep breath before walking inside.
She had never seen so many Korean people in one place.
"Oh god." She whispered to herself as her anxiety levels started to rise by the second. She quickly walked down the hall to try and find the office where she could get her class schedule before class started.
She walked around and couldn't find it. The bells rang indicating that classes started and now she was about to cry. She wandered around some more still searching for the office.
"학교 복도는 배회하기 위한 것이 아닙니다! 수업에 가세요. 아가씨!" Jain turned around quickly to be met with a middle aged Korean woman with a stern look on her face. Jian didn't know what to say. She looked around a bit and then back to the woman. "잘?" The woman said with an annoyed tone. "Oh uh I- umm... office? Office 이 어디인지 아세요? Umm.... 사무실?"
The woman raised her eyebrow. "저는 신입생이고 일정을 확인해야 합니다." Jian explained the best she could. The woman nodded and led her fo the schools office. The woman spoke to the lady at the front desk. "이름이 뭐예요?" She asked.
"퀀 지안 이에요" she spoke and the woman nodded. She set a paper on the desk for Jian to take. Jian lightly took the paper and looked at it. "Home room 47B...." She mumbled reading it.
After the left the office she found her way to first period class which was Chemistry. She peeked through the door and everyone stopped what they where doing to look at her. Jian's palms got sweaty and she wiped them on her shirt before entering the room. "저는 신입생입니다" Jian whispered to the teacher and the teacher nodded. "지안 이에요?"
"네" Jian nodded. The teacher instructed her to introduce herself to the class. Jian wasn't prepared for that. "Umm.... 안녕하세요." She said obviously nervous. "저는 지안 이에요. Umm..." she looked at the teacher the teacher made a hand motion telling her to continue speaking. "Uh 미국 사람 이에요." She said not really knowing what else to say. The teacher pointed at a spot for her to sit.
