No one, not even that sweet blonde boy could help me. I was too far gone.
"At least take a look at the other children first!" Ella pleaded with the boys. I held my breath on the other side of the door, waiting for their reply.
"Fine," one of them sighed at last.
Honestly, I was kind of glad. I didn't want to burden them. They could just be on their way with a normal, happy child and forget about me. It was easier that way. For both of us.
I heard a bunch of shuffling and moving chairs, so I dashed back to the table, half-hopping, to avoid placing any weight on my ankle.
"Hi." I said casually, as if I hadn't just listened to their entire conversation.
What? No...
"Hi!" Liam replied. "We're going to... Er, take a tour. Be back in a mo!" I figured he was trying to hide that they were looking at the other kids. See? He was so sweet, I didn't deserve that.
