Love in the sun

Nathan's POV

I hated myself, I loved her but I didn't love her enough. Just hearing her speak Italian with a raged look on her face confirmed my thoughts, she was angry and she has every right to be.

I broke her and didn't provide an explanation for it. I left my room and saw disappointed faces from below the stairs.

"She's gone."

Fedora started and I covered my face with my hands. I should have fought for us but I've lost her because of my stupid ambition.

"Nate you are to come home in two days time ." My father called me at the ball "I'm not sure I can dad. How long will I be in the states?"

"Very long. I'm retiring along the course of the week. I want you to take over as soon as I step down."

"Now? What about my project? It isn't complete yet. I still have to stay and finish it."

"You've done an amazing job. You don't need to be there anymore."

"You've proved yourself and I'll be more pleased with you if you come over here."

"Give me some time dad... please."

"Okay. I'll call you soon ."

As I and Uriel were touring Rome together, he called "The time has come Nathan."

"I'm here with someone maybe we can talk later today..."
"A woman I presume. I haven't seen her face yet but I'm sure it's  the woman from the ball last night."

Shock ran through my blood

"Who told you this?"
"The paparazzi got hold of some photos, I may not have clearly seen her face but I'm not dumb boy. You can't give up our company for a woman."

"I know dad but..."
"All these years you've disappointed me and now that I'm finally proud of you, you're dumping our hardwork for a woman."

"I love..."

He interrupted again "You love her, Nathan don't expect me to believe that. I'm your father and from what I know you can't stick to one woman at least not yet. Four months ago, you were jumping from one bed to another and now you're in love? That sounds strange to my ears." His voice was mocking

"It must be a phase, get over it and come claim what's yours or I'll give away your inheritance, just what would your mum think of you?"

I took deep breaths, my inheritance is mine. I've worked too hard to secure it.

"I'm coming in two days dad."
"I expect to see you by then." He hung up and I looked back to Uriel who was metres away admiring a craftsman's work.

I had to give her up.

This has been one hell of a ride back to the past and I'm glad to say that the next chapter marks the beginning of present day.
