Matilda had returned earlier in the morning from the bachelorette and was down for breakfast "Is Nate at home?" It was unusual for Nate to be absent at the dining table especially for breakfast.
"Yes. He doesn't feel like eating."
"Where is he?" She pressed on "The poolside, I'm giving him some space before I launch at him and grab him by his ears here." Fedora said
"But if you can talk to him and get him here,that will be much better for all of us."
"Okay. I'll go talk to him." Fedora nodded "Wish me luck."
"You can do it." Fedora urged Matilda who headed for the poolside and saw Nathan seating on a lounge chair staring at the pool before him but obviously lost in thought.
"Good morning." She waited but got no reply and tapped him causing him to snap out of his reverie "I said good morning."
"Oh, good morning... didn't know you were back." He shrugged
"I came back earlier so what's going on?" She sat on the lounge chair next to him "My family is coming today." She looked into the pool too "We both know that's not it."
"I'm just thinking." He answered
"The question is...about what?" She turned her full attention to him "The upcoming days I guess." He sighed "It's their wedding, right?"
She paused and took a deep breath"We've been thinking of the same thing."
"It's so close and I don't know if any of our plans will work out. I feel like giving up but I cannot give up on her you know. I just can't." He started "Same here. I can't give up on Paul."
"But it seems like she just wants to move on. She doesn't want to get hurt again. I know that but I want her to understand that I won't make that mistake again."
"To be honest. She loves you, she didn't look so happy about the whole thing last night."
"In the party? How was it anyway?"
"It was good but she wasn't genuinely smiling. If it makes you feel any better, I overheard what she and Olga said."
"You've met Olga?"
"Yeah. She's a pleasant person. She doesn't seem to like the arrangement as well." He shrugged
"She advised Uriel to call off the wedding if she's so depressed with everything. Olga mentioned something about Uriel still being in love with you."
A smile spread across his face, this was a reason to keep fighting for his love.
