Chapter 31: Esdeath

F/N's perspective

It had been some time since we had destroyed the titan Danger beasts, though, in that time, Tatsumi, Esdeath, and I were stranded upon the tropical island still. The majority of the day consists of searching every inch of the land, hunting for food, and whatnot. Though, as the sunset shifted to night, we all rested around a campfire on the beach. Tatsumi slowly stoked the fire with a stick as he sighed.

Tatsumi: "We searched this whole island till nightfall, and we found nothing....great."

F/N: "You said it, man, no closer to getting back to the mainland."

I said, watching the flames dance over the sand. The soft crackling of the wood mixed with the waves was relaxing, at least, despite our predicament. Esdeath, though hummed a little, drawing my attention away from the fire as she spoke.

Esdeath: "Maybe not a way off, but I at least know where we are. This island is a couple hundred miles southeast of the Empire."

F/N: "Damn, thought we could swim back or something?"

Tatsumi: "Really, you swim back?"

F/N: "I mean if I had Black Marlin."

I said, Esdeath looking over at me with slightly wide eyes.

Esdeath: "So you have his Imperial arm."

F/N: "Yeah...you're not mad, right?"

Esdeath: ".....No, Liver was a good subordinate, but you bested him, as I told you before, the strong live and the weak die."

Tatsumi: "That makes things a lot clearer about you. Though, F/N?"

F/N: "Yeah?"

I said looking over at him, Tatsumi tossing the stick into the fire as he looked up at me.

Tatsumi: "You said before that Night Raid wasn't the only ones you were protecting. It's also the Jaegers isn't it?"

I stayed silent for a moment, my gaze watching as the stick Tatsumi tossed began to char and burn away, joining the smoke that rose up and over to the sea. I stayed like that for a moment before speaking, my eyes remaining on the flames, not facing him.

F/N: "They are, and I know you're smart enough to know why I didn't tell you all that."

Tatsumi: "Cause you would have sounded like a traitor."

F/N: "Yeah. sigh, The 13th Sister is my exact polar opposite in this world, she wants to kill everyone and control the Empire, I want to save everyone and let this world be free. It's not a simple battle, but a long war.."

Esdeath: "One that you are not alone on."

She said, looking away before getting up.

Esdeath: "Though despite our surface differences at the moment, I need both your cooperation for us to return to the Empire, follow me."

She said before kicking sand over the fire to put it out, the light instantly fading while she walked off. Tatsumi was looking at me with a confused expression, the two of us getting to our feet and following the blue-haired general.

Tatsumi: "Was it something I said?"

F/N: "Nooooooo, totally not."

I said in a sarcastic tone as I sped up, getting out of sync with his stride.

Tatsumi: "Dude, you don't have to be a dick about it."

F/N: "Well, maybe think before you speak next time."
