Chapter 29: Beasts

Esdeath's perspective

Emperor: "Thanks to your efforts as of late, the number of bandits around the capital has declined. Along with that, it seems that Night Raid has kept a low profile as well. We are very pleased with your work."

Esdeath: "Thank you, and once I have discovered the location of their new base, I will hunt them down."

I said, kneeling before the Emperor of the Empire. The boy-king had summoned me forth seemingly to thank me for my services. Though as I glanced up, the Minister was still looking upon me with that disgusting smile.

Emperor: "Yes, however, sadly, we have yet to find a suiter that meets your criteria. Though I should mention that the Minister does have a son."

Minister: "Ah, well then Esdeath, perhaps you-

Esdeath: "You both need not concern yourself with that matter anymore. The interest in 'love' has vanished. I only wish for our great nation to prosper."

Emperor: "Oh, how sad."

He said, the boy looking down as the Minister tisked to himself. The whole idea made me feel sick. After the 'Sister' had messed with my head, the very thought 'love' felt like bile pooling in the back of my throat. Though even for the Minister, this was a strange form of manipulation of his puppet. However, I put that aside.

Esdeath: "If that is all, I shall continue my work, good day."

Rising to my feet, I went to leave the hall of the Emperor. The Minister called out to me.

Minister: "General Esdeath, a moment, please."

Esdeath: "What is it?"

I said with an annoyed tone as I looked back at him. The Minister coughed slightly before he moved both hands behind his back.

Minister: "There have been reports of a new kind of Danger beast running a muck around the capital. I want to ask a favor and have you deal with them."

Esdeath: "Ah yes, I've already started to look into that. My forces have already set out to deal with the matter as we speak. Is that all?"

I stated as the Emperor looks up at the Minister as he fidgeted a bit where he stood.

Minister: "Not quite, if you wouldn't mind. Would you mind capturing a few for 'research' purposes?"

Esdeath: ".....If it doesn't go out of my way, then I shall get two or three for you."

Minister: "Excellent, now I won't keep you here. I still have business with our majesty."

I nodded and strode out of the room, the massive doors closing behind me as I made my way back to HQ. A hefty sigh escaping my lips as I held my head stopped in one of the many halls.

Esdeath: "The audacity of the fat fuck...great, now I sound like Echo."

Run: "He was quite the character."

The blonde said as he walked out from behind a corner, crossing his arms as I glanced at him.

Esdeath: "Eavesdropping on me, Run?"

Run: "No, just a simple coincidence. The others are ready to head out on that hunt. Do you wish to join them or?"

He said with a raised brow, his gaze drifting back the way I came from the Emperor's throne room, snapping my fingers and regaining his attention, as I nodded.

Esdeath: "No, I will be joining. Some slaughter of beasts will get my mind off things."

Run: "Then let us depart."
