Another prompt-based story: write a fairy tale or fable of your own that carries a lesson or message you think children today need to hear. How might you build a story around this message that captivates and intrigues the small people of 2021?

--------------------------------------------

Once upon a time, there was a simple little girl. No one knew her, no one even spoke to her. She doesn't mind, she likes the quiet around her. She would walk to school every day on her own, and walk home in the same manner. At least that was how it used to be, until one day she met a man, possibly around his thirties, who would talk to her every day walking towards her home, and she was happy to talk to him. They had quite quickly become friends.

One day, after reaching her home, the man asked her:
"Would you like to come over to mine for tea and biscuits today?"
She stopped and thought about it and told him she couldn't today, her aunts and uncles and cousins would all be visiting for her birthday, but she might be able to come tomorrow. You could see the pleasure on his face, and as he turned to leave he called out "Well then, have a good birthday!" before walking away.

As she would walk home every afternoon, it never occurred to her that he was still a stranger, she knew nothing about him. In fact, she never actually knew his name! She always talked about herself, her family, her hobbies, things like that. Though she never really asked about him.

The next day, she walked up to his door after school and knocked. She waited and waited. A few minutes drifted by before the door finally opened. There was the man, and he was very pleased to see her. He invited her in and then showed her to the living room, telling her to make herself at home. She sat on his little red sofa and waited for the man.

Click! went the lock of the door.

Only then did she realise what she had put herself into...
