"Alright, and you're good to go. I only need to put some bandages on top of it, and then you can go home again. Try to be more careful in the kitchen in the future, alright? I don't want to see you back here with actual damage." I say, cutting the suture neatly. I grab a gauze pad and some bandages to protect the stitched wound.

I'm working in the emergency room right now, as it appeared to be extremely busy. Most of my coworkers are also helping people out here. I see Aspen clean the fresh cuts from a woman who appeared to be in an accident.

"My mommy warned me to be careful, but I'm really clumsy. That's why I get a lot of owies." The little boy gives me a bright smile, making me chuckle. He doesn't look older than five, and his deep brown eyes are looking at me with curiosity.

"Yes, that's true. I was just away for a second when he cut himself. Will he be alright? The cut looked pretty deep to me, and I'm scared it damaged his hand badly." The mom gives me a concerned look, and I give her a reassuring smile to let her know everything will be alright.

"Yes, he will be perfectly fine. The stitches will disappear after a couple of weeks, but there might be a little scar left. It's highly suggested to let his hand have some rest. Don't try to do much with it the first couple of days, and be careful with the stitches. If under any circumstances, they tear open, I want you to come back." I say, making sure the bandages are taped correctly.

"Also, if you have any concerns considering his wound, you should call the hospital. If you don't have any more questions, you're good to go. I'm almost completely sure that the wound will heal nicely if you give it rest." I say, smiling reassuringly at the little boy and his mom.

"Thank you so much. That's a huge relief. I'll call the hospital if things are concerning me. Come on, Cody. Why don't we get you some ice cream? You were very brave today." She says, grabbing his hand and helping him off the table.

"Thank you, ma'am." His soft voice says before he walks away with his mother. A smile appears on my face as I see them both walking towards the exit, and I can't wait until I have a child of myself. I clean up my things before I rise to see if I can help another patient, but the emergency room is almost empty.

The last patient is called in by one of my coworkers, and there's not a person in the room who needs any assistance. I decided to check on my other patients, remembering I specifically have to check on Caine. I need to check if the wound is healing properly and not getting infected, and I need to check it more often because of the complexity of the surgery he had.

I sigh deeply and walk towards the main hall, where I buy a bottle of water from the machines before I continue my way to the second floor. I take the elevator to the second floor as I take little sips from my water bottle. I check my phone to see that Dylan texted me, asking me to bring some extra stuff from the grocery store later this afternoon.

I text her back, telling her I will do so and asking her how late she'll be home tonight. She doesn't reply right away so I put my phone away and walk towards Caine's room. I can hear muffled voices coming from behind the door, and I wonder if he has any visitors today.

Visiting hours are almost over, but Caine has never listened to any rules. He doesn't care about them, and he does what he wants whenever he wants to. Nobody has ever said something about it or even told him he couldn't do some things.

I knock on the door before I slowly open it, seeing a ginger red-haired woman standing in the room with crossed arms. She's facing Caine, meaning she can't see me coming in. I have no clue who she is, but she seems really pissed at Caine.

"God, do you ever stop working, Caine? I can't remember the last time you ever took a vacation to visit mom and dad. Even when you have been in a terrible car accident you're working. We're in the fucking hospital, Caine." She hisses, pointing angrily at his face. Caine only scoffs, not answering the woman.
