Chapter Forty-seven, Released

"What the hell, Caine," I say, looking at the wounds on Caine's knuckles. I frown confusedly as I examine the cuts and bruises before looking at him. He just sits there nonchalantly in his expensive suit, which looks like a disaster by the way.

"Nothing, I just took care of something, and it was deserved if you ask me." He simply says, shrugging his shoulders as he takes a quick look at his hand. He doesn't seem to notice the pain of the wounds at all even though they look pretty painful. I raise my eyebrows in disbelief at him.

"Is that supposed to calm me down? It isn't working by the way." I state, shaking my head in disbelief again. I can't even understand him sometimes, and I can't get a hold of what's going on in his mind. Sometimes, he's just a mystery to me.

"Well, let's just say that the guy that drugged both Dylan and you, won't drug anyone else ever again. I think I made that pretty clear." He says, shaking it off like it's only a tiny detail of his day. I frown deeply before I realize who was taken care of. That guy didn't have such a lovely afternoon, I suppose.

"My guys found the video from when you were drugged, and we searched for the guilty man. We did, and I took care of it." He explains when he sees my confused look, shrugging his shoulders like it's nothing. 

"And you couldn't just hand your evidence to the authorities and let them handle it?" I ask, sounding tired of this conversation. I'm tired of everything, and I wish I could just go back to sleep and forget all of this ever happened. I never realized how some things can drain all of your energy so easily. Caine simply shrugs his shoulders and before he can say anything to me, the door opens, revealing my doctor.

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything, but I'd think the news I'm about to share, will be great news for the both of you." She says, looking at the both of us. Caine nods his head, looking at her with curiosity. I give him a small glare before focusing on my doctor.

"Yes, please," I say, motioning for her to start giving us the good news. I'm hoping to be released from this place any time soon because it feels like the walls are closing in on me, and I would very much like to get back to my own apartment. Then I can finally get back to my habits and things and see Dylan every minute of the day.

"Well, I'm very glad to let you know that we're discharging you this afternoon. The surgery went well, and although it will still take some time to make a full recovery, we don't need you on watch twenty-four-seven." She smiles warmly at both of us. 

"That's very good news. Will she still need to take some medication or something?" Caine asks curiously, wrapping his arm around my waist. His warmth against me feels nice and comfortable, and I almost forget about everything that he just told me a minute ago. 

"Yes, we'll give you some painkillers for your back and some medication to prevent any type of inflammation for the wound from the surgery. You will need to rest a lot for at least a couple of weeks. Take things slow and listen to your body. If you're tired, make sure you rest, alright?" She says, looking at me with a concerned expression. 

"Your back has been weak ever since your first accident when you were sixteen, and this accident weekend your back even more. It will take a lot of time before you can do everything you used to do, and some things will never be an option again." She explicitly tells me, and Caine gives me a stern look. He knows how stubborn I can be when it comes to this. 

It doesn't surprise me though. All of this is something I've been thinking about for weeks, and while I know it's going to be a struggle, I also know that there's nothing I can do about it. I can only accept it and try to look on the bright side of life right now. As they said, if the car hit me a little to the left, I would've broken my back. I could've been paralyzed for life.
