"Dylan, did you do any grocery shopping this week? Or do I need to go to the store when I'm done with my shift? The store is close by the hospital, and it's practically on my way home." I yell, opening the fridge to see what I can eat for breakfast. I grab some yogurt and a banana and make a quick breakfast.
"Can you do them after your shift? I'm having a meeting with my new client this afternoon, and I have to drop by the office to pick up some part of the evidence to take another look at it." She says, walking into the kitchen, fully clothed in a nice suit.
Her beautiful blonde hair was put into a neatly done ponytail, which reached around her middle. She had straightened this morning, as she doesn't like the way her hair has little wavy curls. She says it makes her head looks chubby, but I personally think it makes her look pretty.
She has beautiful brown eyes that remind me a little of a chocolate bar with little caramel pieces in it. The natural blush on her cheeks makes her face light up, and her smile is one of the warmest I've ever seen.
I'm sharing my apartment with Dylan, who grew to be one of my best friends. We met almost six years ago when I was searching for a place to live in London. She was starting her classes at law school in September and was still looking for someone to share the apartment with, as the rent is quite high around here.
I didn't know yet what I wanted to do with my life after Emily and I finished our trip to Europe. While she flew back to America to be home before her classes started, I stayed in Britain, the last stop before we would return home. I decided to stay in Britain to work for some time and figure out what I wanted to study and do in the future. I got a part-time job as a receptionist at a hotel downtown.
"No problem, my shift ends early today. Are you still going to your mom's tonight or do you eat here? I think I'm making pasta tonight." I ask, finishing my breakfast as I look at her. She grabs an apple from the fridge and takes a bite before she answers my question.
"I think I'm staying home tonight. Do you feel like have a girls' night tonight? We have both been so busy these last days, and it feels like we haven't had a night for just us in a long time." She smiles, taking another bite.
"Alright, that's settled then. I'll see you tonight, but now I have to run to be on time for my shift. You know how my boss is whenever one of us gets late for work. I'll get some extra snacks for tonight." I say, grabbing my bag from the kitchen counter. I run to the door, put on my coat, open the door and get out of the door.
I quickly take the slow elevator down, cursing myself for living on the ninth floor and the elevator for being too slow. Once the elevator finally stops on the ground floor, I quickly rush to the door as I utter Mrs. Moore, our neighbor, a good morning. The door locks right behind me, and I see my motorcycle parked right in the parking spot in front of our apartment building.
After all these years, my old motorcycle still runs smoothly and drives perfectly fine. Of course, I had to replace a couple of engine parts a couple of years ago, but my friend has done a perfectly fine job at bringing me to all the places I wanted to go to. I have always found riding a motorcycle was an advantage in a big city because you don't have to drive around town to find yourself a good parking spot.
I quickly drive to the hospital, which is close to the suburbs and only a fifteen-minute drive from my apartment. The building has a modern and new style, and they build a new wing over the summer because we needed more space. I heard they also bought new equipment because the old equipment wasn't working properly anymore.
I park my motorcycle in the assigned parking spots for motorcycles and quickly run inside, checking my watch to see if I'm still on time. My boss, Dr. Lee, has always been strict about being on time for work, and even though, I'm usually always on time for anything, I've been running late for everything since I've been home from my vacation to Spain with Dylan. It's seriously getting annoying.
