Tatiana wanders her way downstairs a few minutes after Zack goes for a run, giving me a pointed look as she gets glass of water for herself. "Is he okay?"
"He will be," I say, and then sigh. "I think he's still in shock that this is happening."
"He's definitely trying to distract himself," she agrees with me, flipping her raven hair out of her face as she hops on top of the counter. "It sucks losing someone, though. I can't imagine what that's like."
"It definitely sucks, that's for sure," I tell her.
"Ah, that's right. You're our little expert on that," she says dryly. "How are you doing?"
"I'm just doing, I guess," I say wearily. "Trying out new meds from Irina. My mom still hates me. I had to reschedule lunch with my dad since Zack showed up the night before we were supposed to go. How are you doing?"
Tatiana shrugs. "Okay, I guess. School is school, the people still suck, and I can't wait to go to college. But I'm happy to be out of the hospital."
"Did you apply to any colleges while you were in the hospital?" I ask, curious. I know she kept up with her schoolwork by attending class in the hospital, but we've never discussed her academic life much.
She nods. "Yeah. I applied to USC, of course, so Bianca and I can be together. I applied to University of Colorado, UCLA, and I applied to Stanford. Just to see if I could get in."
"When do you hear back?"
"Soon. Results are released mid-February for most of them."
"Nervous?"
"Yeah. College, man." She smiles, though. "I'm excited to go, though."
"What do you wanna do, do you think?" I ask her.
"So far, I think I want to be either a vet or a dentist. But I'm not entirely sure yet."
"Nice," I say. "I think I might want to go back and get into psychology. I want to help people like me, you know? But I have an entire pack to run and Zack still won't let me help him. I want to be able to work and have my own career while being able to help him out because it's a two person job."
Tatiana snorts. "Yeah, cause right now you're kind of sitting pretty and not doing much."
"Basically," I reply, and then sigh, opening the drawer where we started putting all our menus. "Pizza or Chinese food?"
"Chinese," she answers, and then sighs. "Ugh, I don't want to go to school tomorrow. I feel like just sleeping in."
"Maybe I'll be nice and let you stay home," I say, winking at her.
