Finally, the first day of your internship had arrived. Your alarm was set for 6:00 am (you can tolerate waking up this early for a purpose. Just not out of the blue to have a casual chat), but you were already awake an hour before hand. You tried to go back to sleep and were frustrated when you couldn't. For some reason, your mind decided to run through every possible scenario it could think of that you might have to deal with like: a surprise question you don't know the answer to, not getting along with a colleague or causing some sort of accident. You soon gave up on trying to go back to sleep and began to get ready for the day. Since you had extra time, you made French toast for breakfast and even tried to make a healthy smoothie following an online recipe. It tasted awful, but apparently did wonders for your skin, so you chugged it.
As you ate, you switched on the TV and came to a channel that was replaying the Top Ten Pro Hero interviews from the Hero billboard Chart Ranking that premiered yesterday. It was playing in the background during your dinner party with the neighbours, but no one was really paying attention. Except for when Endeavour did his 'speech', to which the entire room displayed doubt and disinterest, and the conversation steered away from different ways to marinate chicken and towards the reality of Endeavour as the new number one hero. The stadium on screen was also silent- in fact the only person clapping, was Hawks.
It seems that the collective opinion of Japan's new no. 1 hero is that of general dislike or apathy, and in a way, you kind of understand that. After all, he doesn't quite have the same presence All Might had, but then again, no one could live up to him. Endeavour also isn't very well known in England, that might be true for other countries so he's got some big shoes to fill. You yourself don't really know him, but he's efficient at his job, so you'll have faith in him.
Anyway, now that you're alone and not trying to keep up with small talk, you're taking the time to concentrate on the show and listen to what the heroes say. It's not a stretch to say that you'll be in their protection for the rest of the year, so it's in your best interest to become more familiar with them.
There were a few that stood out to you -Endeavour sure- but also Mirko, the number 5 hero, who seemed tough and dependable, although a little battle crazy. Edgeshot, who's very popular, he exuded a mysterious aura and sounded eloquent when he spoke. And then there's the number 2 hero: Hawks.
Since he placed so high, it means that he's excellent at his job, which is something you respect but...on the other hand the way he just cut off Edgeshot's speech and proceeded to rant his opinions on national television was...well to be honest, you thought it was kind off a dick move. Not to say that he's wrong for having those opinions, because it's fine for him to and you even agreed with a couple of them. But...after all the other heroes did their best to reassure the public, even if it was mostly meaningless pomp, it was important in keeping up their image. But in a few sentences, the no. 2 hero almost entirely undercut all of that...and for what reason? Not to mention that his manner of speaking seemed familiar, although you couldn't quite put your finger on it.
The programme ended shortly after the no. 1 hero's speech, after which you turned off the tv and went to take a shower, get dressed, pack your stuff and go. Since you wanted to make a good first impression you put in a lot of effort into your outfit. You decided to wear a white turtle neck top, with a beige V-neck jumper with slightly puffy sleeves tucked into a plaid pencil skirt, chestnut brown tights and leather lace up office shoes. You put your laptop, work stuff and packed lunch you made earlier in your bag, throw your coat on and head for the bus station.
The bus stop was literally five minutes from you apartment complex and the bus itself arrived within twenty minutes. So far, despite a stressful start, your morning has been going well. You watch the city streets fly by as you're taken to your new place of work, once you're off the vehicle you walk another ten minutes until you reach the steps leading up to the company's building. It was a tall concrete, steel and glass structure, with the logo proudly displayed high up the building. You dither outside the front doors for a bit before mustering up all your courage and walking inside. In the modern, clean looking entrance hall you saw a man with glossy black hair and a clean shaven face in smart-casual dress and a white lab coat.
