It happened too fast.
One moment, I'm sorting through the kitchen looking for some sort of plaster and the next I'm struck hard on the back and knocked to the floor in one fluid motion. Instinctively, I turned around to face my attacker only to be pinned where I lay with a heavy boot on my right arm. The weight wasn't enough to force a scream, just a silent pleading whimper.
"Who sent you?!" Comes a cold and vaguely unrecognisable voice. The words don't register in my state of panic and I only flinch as the harsh tone.
Two small suns blaze a metre from me. Glowing with vehemence that brings a shock to my body. I see the haunting image for a second before shutting my eyes immediately- not wanting my shining orbs to give away where my face. With the figure looming over me, even though only half its full weight on just my right arm, I don't dare move, for the sharp blade I saw for a split second is pointed between my eyes and will skewer me me before I can blink.
For a few long seconds I lay there paralysed, fearing for my life.
Another second goes by and they still haven't made a move. Why? Are they waiting for me to speak? At the very least I don't want to give this villain the satisfaction of hearing me beg for my life, they have me pinned down, unarmed and vulnerable, I can't do anything else.
My lips press into a thin line as I wait. In my panic I don't think to negotiate with my attacker. The smoothness in how they apprehended me, the fact that I didn't even hear them coming and the force as which they are holding me down all signal to me that they intended to kill.
Another agonising few seconds pass when I suddenly feel the weight on my arm disappear. Slow meandering footsteps echo around me, which for an awful moment made me worry that this villain maybe has an accomplice.
Wait no it's definitely one person but...who are they? Has a criminal Hawks is investigating finally caught on and tracked him down? Is it a member of the League of Villains?
How long have they been in the apartment? You'd walked around in the dark for almost 20 minutes and hadn't noticed anything strange. A chill ran down your spin upon realising that they must have been waiting in kitchen for someone to arrive, meaning that they aren't a thief...they are after someone.
"Y/n." Comes a voice. I recognise it immediately.
The lights are on now.
.
.
.
"Y/n you're listening right?"
"Huh, yeah sure," you responded, tapping your fingers on the countertop, glancing at Coco to see her making Korean style strawberry milk. Pouring a glossy fruit syrup into a tall glass jar, she raised an eyebrow and shook her head knowingly as she observed you sitting alone.
Kirara had bailed. Which was somewhat annoying because she was the one that texted you to meet up at Coco's cafe, offering some advice about programming and to talk about Kaito. But like yesterday, she suddenly wasn't available because she needed to attend a call with her boyfriend and his friends. Something like that must have been planned ahead, so either she had forgotten about it (which doesn't sound like Rara) or she was hoping to use you to get out of it but ended up going anyway.
You weren't angry though, after all thanks to the meeting time arranged you were able to catch Coco during the last hour of her shift and spend some time with her. But it was a waste of a train ticket and you could have used this time at the apartment getting ahead on your project.
