Despite it being a cold night, you were sweating and gasping for air. Hawks glanced over his shoulder at you and said quite matter-of-factly, "You seem exhausted, sit here," while patting the space next to him with his wing.
---
You went over to the bench and slowly sat down, "I...what...?" you said and tried to steady your frantic breathing.
Hawks leaned forward with his forearms on his knees, "Why are you surprised to see me? Where else do you think my feather would have led you? A flock of pigeons?"
You brought your hand to your chest and felt your breathing gradually go back to normal, "So, you admit to leading me here?"
He blinked at you and half smiled, "I was just summoning my feather back; you're the one that decided to follow it. Although, I will admit that it's a nice change to have you running after my feathers this time."
Tired, you just gave him a deadpan expression, "Well...I'm here now. As compensation for taking me all this way, will you pay for my train fare?"
"I can do you one better," he said getting up, adjusting his visor to cover his eyes and putting his headphones on.
"What do you mean...?" you warily inquired.
"Have you ever flown before?" he asked and you shook your head, to which he said, "I'll fly you back to the city centre," and held out his hand to you.
You were taken aback. What was he doing?
"Why?" you could only ask.
He raised an eyebrow then smiled, properly this time, "It'll be fun and I'm way faster than the train."
You thought about it for a second before reaching out and placing a hand in his, with a tentative, "Ok."
Hawks gave that hand a slight squeeze before pulling you close, making you blush, and picking you up bridal style, which reminded you of the time he saved you from the collapsing building, "Ready?" he asked. You nodded and almost immediately after, he took off at an astounding speed. Squealing at the sudden rush of cold wind and the thrill of being so high up, you clung onto Hawks for dear life and didn't look down. He smirked at your reaction and slowed down a little, "Ok you can look now. If I remember correctly, you aren't afraid of heights, right?"
Emerging from the crook of his neck to take in the view of below, you said, "That's true."
It was magical; the city was a wash of bright lights, big and small. Cars looked like tiny moving metal bugs on stems of concrete, buildings were like glass and metal leaves, and the pedestrians were smaller than ants. You were almost jealous that Hawks got to see this whenever he wanted. You zipped passed skyscrapers, and after what seemed like only a minute of flying, Hawks came to a stop and landed on the rooftop of a building. You had recognised it upon approach. It was his agency.
He gently set you down and once you were back on your feet you said, "Hey, how do expect me to get back from here?"
"I just wanted to ask you something," he said, circling round you and going to lean against the barrier, "So, I guess, you've chosen this city's branch to do your internship...?"
Seeing as how you're here you would've thought that he knew that by now. Then again, you were surprised he even remembered the previous conversation the two of you had on the hospital rooftop. You nodded, "Yeah."
He looked out to the side and said, "Have you sorted out where you'll be living?"
"I guess so. I took out a loan from the government to help me pay for rent and I've already chosen an apartment to stay in," you replied. Again, it was strange to you that he was asking this, but you assumed he was just checking up on you, since it was a lot to sort out in such a short amount of time. As you spoke, his eyes widened ever so slightly. You continued, saying, "However, I still haven't contacted the apartment owner and right now I'm just staying in a hotel until I've sorted everything out. It's been a little stressful."
