"Keigo, let me borrow the Liberation Army book."
"No chance Orchid."
"I'll obviously return it!"
"What do you even want it for?"
The following morning you woke up Keigo again and the two of you were having breakfast when you asked him if you could borrow his Liberation Army book. It wasn't because you thought that he was hiding something from you. He'd made a promise to you and you trusted him. No, you were for lack of a better term, curious and you wanted to know about their ideology. Groups like these could be found all over the world; people who want change and are dissatisfied with the current system that they are in. In fact, you'd be lying if you said that you loved everything about how things were run, both in Japan and back home. However, you didn't have views like these and since Keigo said that they weren't any real threat, you thought that you might as well learn about them. Maybe you'd gain a new perspective of the world.
Hence, while Keigo was frying sunny side up eggs (ironic since it was a dark cloudy day) and toasting bread, you casually asked him that very question. To no one's surprise, he wasn't having it. Well, at first.
"It's a book," you say to him, whipping up a quick morning salad of lettuce and tomatoes, "I want to read it."
"Funny," he puts a lid partially over the saucepan and looks at you with a deadpan expression, "Why?"
Smiling innocently you say, "I'm curious. I've told you about my interest in activist groups in England who are protesting the current system there, and this seems to be similar, so I want to learn more about this group."
"You were scared of that book just yesterday evening," he states, waiting for the toast to pop up.
"That was just an instinctual reaction devoid of any information or context," you deflect, "It surprised me! Plus, the title had war in it, can you blame me for my fear?"
"A little bit," he bluntly says, but then his expression softens when he sees your little frown, "Although you've always said otherwise, you are a logical person...I say that, but every so often you get inside your own head and suddenly think the world is crashing down around you. All too often you overthink things and end up scaring yourself."
Your smile fell. He knew you too well and it was sort of annoying. Especially considering that all too often he felt like a complete mystery to you. Sighing, you carefully cut cherry tomatoes in half on the kitchen island and say, "That was supposed to be rhetorical."
Keigo quickly checked on the eggs before coming over to you. He leans with his forearms on the edge of the table and says, "That looks great Y/n."
"That's a surprise," you glance at him, "Whenever you sent me pictures of meals you made way back when, they were always devoid of veggies. I thought you hated them."
He chuckles and scoots a little closer, "It's a bad habit of mine. I did buy them from time to time, but they went out of date before I could use them."
"So you weren't kidding when you said that you practically survived off of copious amounts of supplements?" you ask with a half smile.
"Nope," he smiles at you, "By the way, those vegetables look beautiful, better than if anyone else were preparing them."
He's such a tease, always joking around like that. It isn't a sincere comment in the slightest and to be honest it was a tad cringe, but you blush anyway, "Does that mean I can have the book? Just for a couple of days?"
"Gimme a sec to think about it," he says in response and his wings raise ever so slightly in the air. After aforementioned 'sec' he says, "Okay, you can have it for a few days," just as the toast pops up behind the two of you, perfectly timed.
