"Welcome back, Y/n."
The second you opened the door to the apartment, your feathered roommate cheerfully called out to you from the sofa, making you stop short. Surprised, you just sort of stood in front of the open door dithering a little as you didn't quite know how to respond. Keigo, immediately after greeting you, jumped off the sofa and send out a flurry of feathers. They quickly pulled you inside by your coat, shut the door (even using the keycard you had in your hand to lock it) and returned to his wings as he stood in front of you.
"Hello," you began, smiling at him before taking off your coat and shoes. The apartment was nice and warm, "Sorry for spacing out like that, I was just surprised to see you here. You didn't say when you'd be back so I didn't expect you to come back for a while- why didn't you tell me you were coming back?"
"I wanted to surprise you," he said, adjusting his shirt over his sweatpants. He then briefly looked at you before walking over to the kitchen, gesturing you to follow him, "Why didn't you say you were going out? We could have gone together."
You took a seat at the counter but stumbled trying to get on, "How could I have known that you were here if you didn't message me? Besides it was an outing with friends, you couldn't have gone to that anyway."
"Misaki and Kirara?" he questioned, taking a glass from one of the cupboards and proceeding to fill it up with cold tap water.
"Yes, and a few others," you slowly said and laid your head on the table as you watched him.
In your tipsy state you didn't notice his wings flare up slightly at that new information. Still, he sounded cheerful when he asked, "Cool, are these more work friends or some people they know?"
"People they've known since highschool/college- well, they're a group who've managed to stay close and keep contact for years, even into adulthood. There are a few others included, but they live elsewhere in the country," you wittered, "In a way I envy them. I wish I had a big group of people like that...I've only managed to keep three."
"You're doing better than me," Keigo said as he switched off the tap and handed you the drink, "I don't have any."
You lifted your head and stared at the cup, then Keigo, then at the cup again saying, "I'm not drunk Keigo."
"Never said you were," he said, leaning on the counter.
Of course he didn't literally say as such, but his expression told you he knew that you had been drinking. To this, you only sighed at him and took a sip, "Honestly I'm not...I've only had a little bit to drink."
"Your little tumble getting on that seat just now and the fact that you seem completely fine after walking on the streets by yourself in the dark suggest otherwise," he said, resting his head in his hand, "You have work tomorrow, remember? It's probably not a good idea to turn up on the first day hungover."
"If you must know, I'm just not very alcohol tolerant," you said in between sips, realising how thirsty you were.
"Yeah, I know from your numerous dorm party stories. Remember the one that ended with you getting scolded by security for building a tower out of park benches with a couple engineering students and a criminology student?" Keigo responded, making you nod sheepishly. He went quiet for a moment before getting up to get another glass, "You also always used to say that drinking water is important. So don't think of it as me trying to sober you up, but me just making sure that you're hydrating- I'll have a glass too," You laughed quietly and finished your glass. Just as you did, Keigo returned with his full glass. He looked at your glass for a second before taking it away with a feather and placing his in front of you, "Have this."
