*Ghost! Alfred haunts Alice. Modern day. Happy Halloween!*

Alfred had died almost two months ago and he had yet to pass on or go wherever the dead go to. Or maybe this was it, this was life after death, this was what eternity was like. In any case, in the time that he'd been in purgatory he'd been doing a lot of thinking and had come to the conclusion that he wanted to find a way to talk to Alice. His dear Alice had confessed her love for him just days before he died and he'd had to push her away despite loving her so dearly. She'd been willing to die just to stay with him and he couldn't let her throw herself away for him. He made his way from the graveyard he was buried in to his house. He sat on the old swing in his back garden remembering all the time that he and Alice had spent there for awhile before seeing the fence gate open. Alice walked through and slumped down against the tree. She clutched her copy of "Alice in Wonderland" so tightly in her hands that her knuckles were white. Her hair was tangled and down and she looked like she hadn't slept properly in days. "Alice" Alfred breathed. Somehow, he really did breathe her name. And she heard it. Her head whipped up and her eyes widened. "Alfred?!" she croaked, her voice hoarse. "Alice my Alice!" Alfred tried, kneeling down next to her. She couldn't hear him this time and she began searching frantically for the source of his voice. "Alfred where are you?" She said. "Alice!" He tried again. "WHERE ARE YOU?" She screamed with tears in her eyes. The glass sliding door to the backyard opened and Alfred's mother stepped out. She too, looked disheveled but not nearly so much as Alice. "He's dead Alice, go home" She said curtly. "Mrs. Hallam I heard him" Alice protested. "Alice if you don't go home I'm calling your mother" Alice hung her head and made her way back through the gate, locking it behind her. As soon as she was gone Mrs. Hallam sighed and ran a hand through her hair as she went back inside. Alfred sat back on the swing and noticed that Alice had left the book by the tree. By the way his mom had talked to Alice he knew that she'd get in trouble if she came back. He had to find a way to get the book to her. He sunk his fingertips into it again and again, willing his hand to be able to hold it. Just to hold this one object that was symbolic of his and Alice's love, and the time they'd spent together. With that thought he found himself able to hold the book. He floated himself and the book up to the open window of Alice's room. Alice lay on her bed staring up at the glittery popcorn ceiling. Alfred steadied himself as he entered the room and waved the book above Alice. Her eyes widened and she bolted upright. "Alfred?" She said, reaching to touch the book. "Oh my dear white rabbit!" She smiled, her first real smile in months. "You're here!" She breathed in awe. She suddenly realized the situation she was in and frantically began looking for her phone. "Stay with me Alfred, I'll find a way to see you" Alice found her phone and quickly took a few pictures across her room in an attempt to see if he'd show up on camera. He did, and she gasped. Her white rabbit was there with her, the same as he was the day he left her. She looked up to where he was. "White rabbit" she smiled with tears in her eyes. But for the first time in months, they were happy tears.

They found ways to communicate. Sometimes through writing but mostly through Alice's phone. Alfred would possess the phone and speak to Alice like it was a phone call. Alice and Alfred were finally together, in a way. And although it wasn't what either had envisioned, they were together, and they were happy.
