"Alice we're going to be late!" Alfred called from outside. "One minute!" Alice called back, trying to quickly lace up her boots. "Alice!" "Okay okay!" Alice panted as she swung open the door, still shoving her phone and keys into her purse. "Let's go!" She smiled at him, taking his hand. "Okay if we walk fast we should still be able to make the train downtown" Alfred voiced aloud as the two of them left the apartment complex. "Don't worry baby, we'll make it" Alice smiled back at him as she dragged him down the block. The couple walked the three blocks to the nearest subway station and made it there with two minutes to spare. "See love? Queer walking speed." Alice smiled, pulling Alfred in for a hug. "I missed you" Alfred returned the hug, closing his eyes and holding on tight. "I missed you too, love." The couple just stayed there, holding onto each other like they'd never hold each other again. The train arrived and they pulled apart, still holding hands as they boarded. It was crowded, but considering it was new years eve it wasn't as bad as it could've been. Alice was sure her heart would beat out of her chest as she stood there, one hand on the handle and the other hand in Alfred's. She hadn't seen him for MONTHS, not since she'd moved to the city, and the long distance relationship had been hard on both of them. But he was finally here, even if only for a couple days just to visit he was here. And Alice knew what she wanted to do at midnight. She'd been dreaming of his sweet soft lips for months and tonight he was here. He was looking at her, she realized, his soft shiny eyes so full of love. "You're so beautiful Alice" He whispered, leaning in so she could hear him. "You're so beautiful Alfred, you have no idea" Alice whispered back, squeezing his hand. The two of them stood, foreheads pressed together, as the train pulled up to their stop. The doors opened and they filed out with the rest of the passengers. Alice led the way, never letting go of Alfred's hand. There was a park just a block from the station that was their destination, Alice knew they were setting off fireworks there and she knew the perfect spot for her and Alfred to watch. There was a little nook hidden among some trees by the pond, it wasn't like it wasn't visible, people just didn't seem to like being so close to the pond. Alice knew Alfred wouldn't mind though, which made it the perfect spot for them. "Here we are," She said, turning around to face him. "The fireworks should be starting any minute, you managed to keep me on time" she smiled, taking the blanket she'd brought along out of her bag. "Help me with this?" she asked. He helped her lay out the blanket and the two of them sat down, so close but not yet daring to touch. "Thank you Alice, this is perfect" He said, his fingers brushing hers on the blanket. "I should be thanking you Alfred, I'm so glad you came to visit, you truly have no idea how much I've missed you, how much I've missed being with you, how much I've missed holding you, oh white rabbit I never realized you could miss someone so much." Alice admitted, finally daring to touch his face, cupping it in her free hand and brushing her thumb across his cheek. "Sometimes I worried that I'd never see you again." Alfred put his free hand on the one she had on his face, holding it and turning to kiss it. "You'll always see me again Alice, I promise" the couple stared into each other's eyes for a moment, before being interrupted by the fireworks. "They're pretty huh?" Alice said, trying to focus on the moment. "Yeah," Alfred responded. He shifted positions, putting his legs out in front of him. Alice did the same, and she laid her head on his shoulder and he laid his head on hers. "I don't know what the new year will bring Alice, the future is never certain. But I know I want to spend it with you" Alice took his hand again, threading their fingers together. "I want that too Alfred, I want to be with you." Even from across the pond they could hear the countdown beginning. The couple turned to each other. "I love you" "I love you too" And as the clock struck midnight they shared a kiss they'd never forget.
