Chapter 14; God of Mischief

"How long until it's ready?" Loki barks as Doctor Selvig's metallic grey eyes scan the hunk of impressive metal sitting in front of him. "I need more time and materials." Selvig whispers back. "The portal won't have enough power to function unless I get what I need. The tesseract's energy is too strong. I need something stronger to contain and work with it."

Bucky walks over and square his shoulders. "Tell me what I need to do, sir." Loki flashes a wide grin at the strong solider under his control.

"Irridium," Selvig replies. "It's found in meteorites and produces anti-protons but it's extremely difficult to get hold of. Especially with S.H.I.E.L.D looking for us."

Loki laughs, delightfully. "Nicolas Fury thinks he's going to stop me. No doubt he and the Avengers are deviating a plan as we speak. Fools!" He laughs, again and Selvig and Bucky tilt their heads in confusion.

Loki grins. His white teeth flash with menace. "Don't worry. Everything is going according to plan. You need time to build the machine for the portal and time is the one thing I have, comrades. I have waited long enough. I can wait a few more weeks. Yes. The Avengers will think they can win. But once their guard is down I will strike. Strike from the inside. Every regime eventually collapses. But this one. This one will collapse by my hand. I will tear the Avengers apart." Loki laughs again, manically as Bucky and Selvig return his evil grin.

A flash of silver light shoots by making Selvig jump. A young man with bleach blond hair and a young woman with scarlet hair join the others from out of nowhere. "Ah, just in time my powerful, young friends."

The young woman whispers into Loki's ear causing his grin to falter.

"Well. That didn't take long." He pouts and rubs his chin, dramatically. "Not to worry. We'll leave for Stuttgart tonight. I'll get the solider what he needs and Selvig will stay here to continue his work."

"But the Avengers?" The blond boy starts but stops, suddenly when Loki flashes his a dangerous look.

"The Avengers will be right where I want them to be." Loki snarls before turning to Dr. Selvig. "You said this machine needs to be compatible with the tesseract in order to safely maintain the portal's energy yes?"

Doctor Selvig nods, not really understanding Loki's train of thought. "The tesseract is a beautiful weapon. It has shown me things and opened my mind so much. But it also frightens me. It's dangerous. It's power is so unpredictable. Its energy needs to be controlled, monitored. If we want to portal to stay safely open for the Chitauri to come, it might be a good idea to have a plan in place to make sure it stays open and nothing goes wrong. To have another source of energy on hand, perhaps."

Loki smiles, wildly at the professor's words. This is exactly what he was hoping to hear.

"Oh, I think I have someone in mind who might be able to help us with that."

He turns to the young man and woman to his left who are eyeing him, nervously. "Don't fear, children. It's all part of my plan. Soon, you will have your revenge on the man that killed your parents."

The young man and woman smile, sadistically. Loki raises his hands and laughs. "Yes. The great Iron man himself will soon, finally feel the wrath of the people he has wronged. The Avengers need to learn that they must face the consequences of their actions. And what better way to get your revenge; Wanda and Pietro, than by taking an eye for an eye?"

The twins raise their eyebrows in intrigue. Loki bares his teeth and whispers; "That's right, children. Once she has served her purpose to me, and only then, you can finally give Tony Stark a taste of his own medicine show him what it feels like to has his family ripped away from him."

The twins laugh as Loki notices someone flinch out of the corner of his eye. He raises his eyebrows in curiosity before gliding over to the soldier and placing a hand on his metal arm. Loki closes his eyes and grins while Bucky shifts, involuntarily on his feet.

Loki then peels his eyes open and chuckles. "Well, well, well Sergeant. It seems you have been keeping something from your friends. Something that will no doubt destroy and devastate them. Interesting.... very interesting and you seem to have become quite attached to the young miss Hart, eh? How sweet... You're quickly turning out to be my favourite Avenger yet, Bucky."
