Battle to battle. Destroying enemy after enemy to protect Asgard. However, he feels nothing for it. There are banquets and parties thrown in his favor, but he does not attend them. Women throw themselves at him, even Sif, but he just looks at them with a cold gaze and they know they are not wanted. All he can think about is how he failed his brother, and even saving his kingdom means nothing to him over that.

Ever since he and Loki were young he was made to promise to look over and protect his brother, and he has failed to do that. Loki needed to know he could trust Thor and depend on him and know he was there with him till the end, but instead, Loki just felt contempt for his brother and in the end died because Thor didn't mind him enough and didn't help him when he needed it.

. . .

A small 3-year-old Thor runs through the halls towards a sound he had never heard before. As he gets closer to his room he hears the sound get louder. When he finally gets to the hallway that contains his room, he notices that the sound is coming from the room across the giant hall from his.

Without a knock, Thor walks into the room and sees his mother with her back to him while she sways in front of the window. As Thor gets closer to her, he sees that she is holding a small object, the sound that is new to him is coming from it.

"Mother," Frigga's soft humming stops, but she continues to sway, "what are you holding? Why is it making such a terrible sound? Why is it so cold in here?"

Frigga chuckles just loud enough for Thor to hear as she turns around and sits on the bench she was standing in front of a moment before. As she sits Thor can see a small bundled up being in his mother's arms.

"This is your baby brother, his name is Loki." Thor takes a few steps closer to the sniffling baby. "He was crying because he is new to this place and he doesn't feel safe yet."

Thor takes the last few steps quickly and peers his head right over the little baby. "He's so small."

Frigga chuckles once more, "Yes, Thor, most babies are." Loki starts to move a nit in Frigga's arms as another tear streams down his face.

Thor moves his right hand quickly and catches Loki's tear on his index finger. Baby Loki's eyes open with an emerald color beaming from them. Thor feels drawn in by them.

"Hi, Loki, I'm your big brother Thor." For the first time since he has been brought to Asgard, Loki smiles and giggles. "You are safe here, Mother and Father won't let anything happen to you, I promise."

Thor takes his hand away from Loki's face and Loki's eyes just follow him, until Thor sits on the bench next to his mother.

"That was very sweet Thor." Frigga smiles down at him.

"May I hold him, Mother?" His question was blunt and to the point, but Frigga thought it was precious either way. She just nods and gently gives Loki to Thor, showing him how to properly hold a baby in the process.

Soon enough, what Frigga was trying to do for hours is accomplished by Thor in just a few minutes, Loki is fast asleep with his tiny thumb in his mouth.

"Thor," Frigga whispers, "I need you to promise me something." Thor peers up at her with loving eyes. "Will you always look after and protect your brother? No matter what?"

Frigga gently takes Loki from Thor as she asks her last words and puts Loki in his crib. When she looks back over at Thor he's nodding with a smile.

"I promise, I will never let anything bad happen to him, I will be with him every step and will look after him always." To finish his promise Thor drew an imaginary X over his heart.

"Thank you, Thor." Frigga says with a smile while kneeling down to hug Thor. "Now, come on, let's let your brother sleep."

. . .

"Thor!" Heimdall's voice echoes through Thor's head. "Come to the Throne Room!"

'Dammit.' Thor punches his pillow as he sits up on his bed and heads towards the door. 'Not another war.'

Thor walks through the halls of the palace until he gets the towering doorways of the Throne Room. He rolls his eyes before he walks through each doorway until he stands in front of his father, his mother, and Heimdall.

"Thor, my son, there is something urgent you must do."

"If it's another war-"

"It's not, my Love." His mother looks at him with hopeful eyes.

"Then what is it?"

"I have seen someone I thought I would never see again in any of the nine realms." Heimdall says with his golden eyes full of confusion. "I have seen Loki in Midgard."
