CHAPTER 5: JOINING THE GANG

Harry and Judy were on a gang case.  They had infiltrated this neighborhood gang. The gang was a bad one, recruiting the young kids in the neighborhood, preyed on the vulnerable teenagers, who didn't have fathers in the home. They reeled them in with expensive gifts, tennis shoes, gold watches, designer clothes, saying that they just wanted to help out the youth, once they had them, then they made them deal drugs, steal, rob, rape, burglary, assaults, even murder.  The case was brought to Jump Street because one of the kids that Judy, Tom, Doug, and Harry knew from one of the schools that they had attended was murdered.  He was beaten, and tortured, burned, branded, and then dumped out.  This kid was one of the kids that they had met, and helped, and he had started to turn his life around, so when they heard from his mom what all had happened to him. They were devastated. They thought he had a bright future, with a college scholarship that he had just received.  They had seen him like a week before his death.  he had came in to talk to them all, and tell them about his scholarship. They had planned to all go to his high school graduation and have a party for him.

They all wanted to avenge this kids death, and agreed they would bring this gang down.  So Harry and Judy acted like street kids, and got invited to hang with the gang.  But someone tipped off the leader of the gang, and so he ordered a hit on Harry and Judy.  Harry was shot in the head.  Judy held his lifeless body, as the car sped away.   Fuller got a hold of Booker and Tom who were on a case with Doug, and they all met at the hospital.  Harry was rushed into surgery.  Judy was covered in Harry's blood, all over her white dress.

Harry was out of surgery, doctors said they did all they could do, but that he was in a coma. It was just going to be a wait and see. He encouraged them to visit and talk to him on the chance that he could hear them.  Judy spent most of the time at the hospital. So did Booker, to be with her, and Doug.  Tom was so upset, just like the others, but he wanted vengeance. He wanted to make the leader of that gang pay. So he begged Fuller to let him go in.  Fuller refused.  Said that they should have never taken the case.  Tom said "why it's our job, to put these guys away, why should we let them get away with this."  Fuller said "I almost lost Harry, I don't want to lose you or any one else. The answer is no."

Tom was sitting in with Harry and Judy.  Tom said "Judy can we talk."  She said "Sure let's go for a walk."  Tom told her he was going to turn in his badge, and then join that gang. He wanted to get them.  Judy begged Tom not to do it, said she didn't couldn't take it if Tom was shot too. But Tom insisted he was going to do it. So she told Doug and Doug went to Fuller.  So Fuller told Tom he would ok it and come up with a way to get Tom into the gang.  Tom had to have a real gang member come in and try and teach him how to be in a gang, and talk gang lingo.  Tom is living in a dirty cheap motel room on the street where this gang operates.  He has Fuller and Booker try and arrest him, then he assaults them, and takes off running, gets help from one of the gang members to hide.  They were impressed by how he just decked the two cops, and so they invited him to one of their parties, and to hang with them.  He started on the street, but Fuller came up with an idea to get him noticed by the head guy who was Mario.  

Over with Sydney.  Her boss told her he  was going to put Sydney on a new case, one that he thought only a handful of officers could pull off and he chose her. There was a violent gang that pushed and sold drugs, was threatening  all the business owners in that area of town, made the owners pay them money, so that they would leave them alone, the ones that wouldn't pay, they beat up, robbed, etc. They preyed on youths to join their gang, and to initiate them they had to commit a serious crime, Rapes, murders, violent assaults, torture, they harassed everyone in their neighborhood, tortured people. Her boss wanted to bring them down. One of the victims was a woman who was raped by several of the gang, beaten, burned with cigarettes all over, then thrown out of a moving car and run over. Turned out she was the daughter of the Captain's best friend and former partner. She had dated the head gang leader, Mario, and so the Captain really wanted to bust all the gang members, and bring them down, but especially Mario. He had told Sydney how dangerous the case was, and that if she didn't want to infiltrate the gang it was fine, she could refuse. She said she would think about it, but she wanted to talk to this girl Maria, and so the Captain took her to a safe house, where Maria was recovering, and she heard her story, and what all Mario and his thugs did to her. He branded her with Mario's name across her body.
