CHAPTER 14: ROAD TRIP

The next morning Tom was up early.  He called his mom and let her know that he had talked to Sydney about getting her out of town during the trial, and that she said she would go. He said so if it's ok with you can we stay with you at least a couple weeks.  I want to take Sydney some other places, but I thought we could start out at your house.  She was so excited. 

While they were eating breakfast Sydney said "So Tommy are you sure your mom wants me to come?"  Tom said "yes in fact I just got done talking to her, she can't wait to meet you."  Sydney said "I'm sure she won't like me."  Tom said "Sydney you have nothing to worry about. She is going to love you."  Tom tried to reassure her.

Judy and Booker came over early evening.  Sydney said "hey guys."  She went over and hugged Dennis a quick hug.  He said "how you feeling"  Sydney said "A lot better, I hurt, but it's not near as bad"  Dennis said "Tommy taking good care of you?"  Sydney said "yes he is taking the best care of me."  Sydney hugged Tommy.

Tom said "So Booker I was hoping you could talk some sense into Sydney" Sydney said "What."  Tom smiled.  He said "So I'm not sure if Judy told you, but I want to take Sydney on a long trip, get her out of town during the trial."  Dennis said "yeah she told me, I think that is a great idea. Don't tell me she is objecting?"  Sydney said "no Booker I'm not."  Tom smiled.  He said "no she said she would go, but she is like worrying  and making herself upset, thinking that my mom isn't going to like her.  I told her my mom will love her."

Booker said "Well this is one thing that Hanson and I can agree on, for sure Sydney Mrs. Hanson will love you. How could she not?"  Sydney said "Trust me I know she won't."  Tom said "She will Sydney don't worry about it." He kissed her forehead.  Booker said "So we thought we would see if you wanted to go do something. My treat."  Tom said "Sydney"  She said "if you do Tommy that would be ok."  Tom said "So ladies what would you like to go. Oh I know you guys want to go bowling, but I kind of hate going to the bowling alley."  He grinned.  Sydney laughed.  

Judy said "we could go to the movies." Sydney said "yeah movies sound good."  Dennis said "ok so you ladies aren't wanting to see some chick flick do you?"  Judy said "Well of course."  He laughed.  So did Tom. They picked out a movie, then they went to eat pizza before the movie.

Judy said "gentleman we will be back then we can go to the movies."  The girls left to go to the bathroom.  Dennis said "So Hanson how is Sydney doing really?"  Tom said "not that good. She's in a lot of pain, but I'm mainly worried about her nightmares. They haven't eased up."  Dennis said "damn I want to kill that sob so damn bad. It's everything I can do to keep from going to see him in lockup and putting a knife through him."  Tom said "yeah I hear you on that."  Dennis said "Well I'm glad that you are getting her away from here."

The girls came back and they went to the movies.  Sydney fell asleep on Tom's shoulder. She was exhausted because of all her nightmares that kept her awake.  After the movie they went to get ice cream.  Sydney said "Hanson I'm so sorry."  He said "For what?"  She said "For falling asleep on your poor shoulder."  He said "it's fine, I'm glad that you were able to get some good sleep, but I'm sorry you missed the movie.  I'll take you tomorrow if you want to see it"  She said "it's ok."

They left the next day to go to Tom's moms.  They stopped to eat lunch at a roadside diner.  Tom said "hey Syd please stop worrying. My mom already is crazy about you."  Sydney said "thanks. You are so sweet."  She kissed his cheek.  They pulled into the driveway.  Tom went around and opened the door, and helped her out of the car.  He pinned her gently against the car.  He put his arms around her waist.  He said "Syd she is going to love you. Please don't worry."  Sydney said "I hope so."  He said "I know so."  Sydney said "you are her baby Tom."  He said "Gee thanks, so are you trying to tell me you see me as a baby."  He grinned.  She said "no."   She laughed.  He said "Should I be offended, my dream girl thinks I'm a baby."  She laughed. So did he.
