CHAPTER 28: FACING FEARS

Sydney felt sick again so Tom help.  When she was done throwing up she decided she would take a hot bath.  Tom told her he'd let her have some time.  Tom left and went and called Judy.  He asked Judy if Booker was by chance there.  Judy told him yeah she'd get him.  Was everything ok?  Tom said "yeah I just am going to need your help and his help. I'll fill you in, but I need to talk to Dennis"

She said "babe Hanson needs talk to you"  Dennis took the phone.  He said "Hanson"  Tom said "I'm going to need your help with Sydney"  Dennis said "ok but Tom look I 've been trying just like you have, you're just going to have to let her grieve"  Tom said "no not with that. I know what's got her upset"  Dennis said "Wait she finally opened up about it"  Tom said "yeah she's terrified"  Dennis said "Terrified of being kidnapped again"  Tom said "Booker she's pregnant"  Dennis said "What Sydney is pregnant"  Tom said "Yeah and she is terrified of it, afraid she's convinced she's going to lose this baby too. I tried reassure her, that I will protect her. I'm going to just quit. I don't want to even risk leaving her. And I don't want her worrying about me being out on a case and getting shot or hurt. I need call Adam and let him know.  I was hoping I could count on you to try and help me reassure Sydney. That she is safe, that this time she will be protected"  Dennis said "yeah of course I'll do whatever I can to help"  Tom said "Can you fill Judy in and can you have Judy come over and visit with Sydney, you too, if you can get off"

Dennis said "yeah."  Tom called and told Adam that he was sorry but Sydney was his first priority and that she was pregnant, that he really did not have it in his heart to be a cop any more."  Adam said "he knew that Tom had been having doubts about continuing, and he accepted his decision, but would miss him.   He told him that he would welcome Tom and Sydney both still continuing to work but just helping with behind the scenes, like computer work, doing investigative work from home even, consultant,"  Tom said he would talk it over with Sydney.

Sydney had came out and heard the conversation.  Tom didn't know she was there.  After he hung up, Sydney said "So you just quit"  Tom said "Dammit Sydney what are you doing out here I was going to come get you"  She said "Hanson I can walk"  He said "I know but yeah anyway I quit.  I told you I wasn't didn't have it in me be a cop"  She said "I know that. You've been struggling with it"  He said "yeah but this is for the best. This way I can be home with you making sure you and our baby are safe."  Tom went and put his hand on Sydney's stomach.  She put her hand on his.

Tom said "Ok baby how you feeling, can I get you anything to eat"  She said "Maybe some yogurt "  Tom said "ok you need to call your doctor"  She said "I already did. Before I came out.  I got a appointment this afternoon, if you can take me"  Tom said "Sure"  

Tom took her to her appointment, doctor assured her that there should not be any problems with this pregnancy, got her started on her prenatal vitamins.   Sydney told doctor she was worried about losing baby, something happening.  Doctor said she understood but cautioned Sydney that worrying would cause stress and that would hurt the pregnancy.  Judy and Dennis brought dinner over to Sydney and Tom that night.  And both tried reassure Sydney that this would be ok.

Tom waited on Sydney and went and got all her food cravings for her. They did decide to still work for the department but work from home as consultants and could do investigating on computer and work behind the scenes. That way they were able to work from home, but still stay on insurance.

Tom's mom brought dinner over and came over to help Tom around the house. She was relieved Tom was not on any cases any more.  

A few months passed, Sydney was getting bigger, they had an ultrasound appointment.  Sydney was panicked when they didn't find baby's heartbeat, but doctor told her just give it a minute.  They listened to heartbeat, doctor said baby was doing fine, strong heartbeat.  Doctor asked if they wanted to know the sex.  Sydney looked at Tom.  She said "Tommy I would rather not know I think but you can find out and just don't tell me"
