Annabeth sat at the side of the Olympian throne room. The past three days had been strenuous. She had waited in her mom's bedroom while the gods had debated what to do with Percy. After she'd grabbed Demeter and transported to Olympus, the grain goddess had squealed, attracting the attention of Poseidon, Athena, Hephaestus, Hera, Aphrodite, Artemis and Apollo. Zeus, Ares, Hermes and Percy weren't there, which worried Annabeth, and Dionysus was back at Camp. Athena had grabbed Annabeth and transported her to the goddess' private quarters, and asked Annabeth why she was there.
"I saw Percy," was all Annabeth said. Athena had frowned, "I'm on his side."
"But you didn't do anything."
"I am doing something."
"Do more."
Annabeth was relaying that coversation in her head as Ares appeared at the end of the room, dragging Percy with him. Percy looked horrible, and Annabeth threw her hand over her mouth. There were imperial gold chains around his wrists and ankles. There were deep shadows under his eyes, and he was shivering and pale. One of his eyes was swollen shut. He wasn't even fighting as Ares dragged him up to the gods and dumped him at Zeus' feet. He caught sight of Annabeth, and he paled even more. When he looked up at Zeus, his not-swollen eye was filled with hatred. Zeus' eyes reflected the emotion. Despite the situation he was currently in, Percy said, "Finally decided to do something, eh?"
"You are accused of conspiring with Gaea and stealing Poseidon's trident," Zeus said, "Do you deny these charges?"
Annabeth gasped. This was the first she'd heard was he'd been accused of. Percy would never!
"If I say I plead guilty will this go any faster?" Percy asked, "Because you'll punish me either way."
He sounded bitterly resigned to his fate, which surprised Annabeth. He didn't usually give up so easily, and it made her wonder what exactly had happened to him... wherever he'd been. Annabeth didn't actually know where the gods kept their prisoners.
Zeus ignored Percy's question, "We shall vote. All who think Perseus is innocent?"
Athena, Aphrodite Apollo and Artemis raised their arms. Annabeth's stomach dropped. Not even Poseidon had voted in his sons favour.
"All who think Perseus is guilty."
All the other gods raised their arms. Even Hermes. Even Poseidon! Annabeth stood, "With all due respect, Lord Zeus, Percy's fatal flaw is loyalty. He would never let us down."
Zeus dragged his eyes to her, "We have taken that into account."
"But..."
"The votes have been taken."
"But..."
She glimpsed Percy, who was shaking his head at her. But she couldn't just let them kill him! Or torture him! Or something horrible like that.
But she sat down. There wasn't much she could do against gods. Zeus turned back to Percy, "Now for your punishment. I have decided to banish you. To Tartarus."
Annabeth stood again, "You can't!"
Percy's voice was quiet as he said, "Annabeth, be quiet.
"But I can't let them do that to you!"
She was crying now, but she didn't care. He was her Seaweed Brain!
"It's okay, Annabeth. I've survived Tartarus before, remember?"
She looked at the gods, "Can I say goodbye?"
Zeus nodded. Annabeth ran over to Percy and threw her arms around him. She yelped, "You're freezing. And wet."
He grinned, "I'm about to get really hot."
That just made her cry more. Percy smiled softly, "It's okay, Annabeth. I'll be okay."
"I-I can't lose you," she sobbed, throwing her arms around his wet shoulders.
"I'll be fine. Just, remember me will you?"
Annabeth nodded through her tears. He smiled greatfully, "Don't cry too much over me, anyone would think you're in love!"
She laughed, "I am in love."
She leaned forward and kissed him.
"Times up," Zeus said. Annabeth pulled away, and Percy smiled sadly, "I love you Wise Girl."
"Seaweed Brain," She managed, and he laughed. It was the last time she'd ever hear that laugh. Athena came forward and gently pulled Annabeth back. Zeus held his hand over Percy's head, "Goodbye, Perseus Jackson."
He gently flicked his wrist, and Percy disappeared in a shower of gold sparks. Annabeth sobbed and embraced her mother, who held her. Annabeth began to feel tired, and she let Athena carry her away. She was laid down on a soft bed, and eventually, she cried herself to sleep.
