A few demigods had chosen to stay on Olympus. The ones who had chosen to leave were Piper (in tears of course), Reyna, Lavinia Asimov, Conner and Travis Stoll, and Katie Gardner. Which left Nico, Will, Drew Tanaka and Annabeth. Annabeth had obviously stayed to get Percy off the throne, and Drew had stayed because she was, well... Drew. Nico suspected that Will stayed for him, but Will denied it with every breath.
Nico had chosen to stay because he didn't want to be caught in any conflict. He didn't want to see anyone else die, didn't want to see Percy's infernal sword, Theos Dolofonos, end anyone else.
Speaking of the devil, Percy chose that moment to walk through the doors to Nico's room, "I need your help."
Nico frowned, "With what?"
But Percy didn't answer. He just began pacing the room, running a hand through his night-dark hair. Nico was surprised to see that his crown wasn't on his head, but he was wearing other jewelry. In his left earlobe, was a dangling earring, made of gold. Many rings adorned his fingers, and a golden collar was clasped around his throat. The King of Olympus had taken to wearing an embroided black tunic and black pants. He looked like a villain from some fantasy novel. Well, he did when he wasn't pacing Nico's room nervously.
"Percy, what's the problem?" Nico asked again. Percy took a deep breath, "Polybotes showed up."
"And?"
"I need you to help me kill him the next time he comes."
Nico frowned, "Why me?"
"Because," Percy sounded exasperated, "He can only be killed by a demigod and a god working together. I don't really trust Annabeth, Will doesn't kill, and Drew's head is full of fluff. You're the most logical option."
He couldn't argue with that logic, "Okay. I'll help you."
Percy smiled, actually smiled, and said, "Thank you so much!"
He turned and exited the room, leaving Nico alone feeling very shaken. Had he really just seen a glimpse of the old Percy? Instead of looking like a villain, he'd looked like a guy in a costume.
Nico had to find Annabeth.
