I made this story about a year ago in the intent of making it a full blown story. However, I never had motivation to continue and so I stopped. That happened to a lot of my ideas. So, here. See the unfinished, untitled, old, half cringe story.
"I think he's waking up," said a voice. It sounded distant. My head felt like a thousand tiny fish were swimming in it. I tried to open my eyes but all I could see was a few blurry black spots.
"Wh-" I tried to speak but my tongue was frozen, numb.
"Don't try and speak. You weren't properly prepared for a portal trip," the first voice said. My vision began to clear and I could see a human-like figure. It had bright yellow eyes and weird black blobs thingies sprouting from it's back. It also had long, ginger hair in messy braids. A dagger was tucked into a belt at its hip. Its green t-shirt and gray skirt were barely visible in the tall grass.
"Amara, I believe that the human is confused. We should introduce ourselves. Then we should take her to rest," came another voice. I could not see this second figure.
My tongue had thawed and I began to speak, "Who are you and where am I? And why do you refer to me as 'human'? Are you not 'human'?"
"No we are not. We are a race called shadow arms. We haven't had human interaction in hundreds of years. My name is Amara. I am a royal guard," the first individual said. She turned to her right and I caught a glimpse of another person standing in the background. As they stepped forward it was obvious that they held power.
"This," Amara said, "is our princess". Amara gave a low bow. I tried to stand up as well but the new character motioned for me to sit. I had not noticed this person before and I usually had a talent for spotting things, especially people, in the dark. Her golden tentacles flashed in the light of the stars. She wore a simple silver circlet set with carnelian on her head. Strands of messy red hair stuck out from underneath it. At her side was a pouch, it's contents hidden. Slung on her back was a beautiful longbow that appeared to be made from the sky itself. Curiously, the princess had a pair of wings. They were tucked at her side and were barely visible. The clothes that the princess wore were like those of Amara. However, hers bore a certain mark that I did not recognize. It was a marble of purple and blue that kept swirling and moving.
"Greetings," she said. Her voice was smooth and calm. "I am princess Zemanthia of the Shadow Arm kingdom. How did you get here?" she asked. I was still somewhat stunned from my portal trip, but I managed to speak. Well, sort of.
"I-I was on my way tothe store to b-buy some-" I began. But Amara interrupted me.
"Ah yes, the human concept of money. Here, we do not have 'money'. Here, everyone is given an equal amount of food and other stuff. Younger children are given toys, grown men and women are given tools. If you want more, you work for it. Simple! We have none of what you call 'poor people'. Anyways, continue," she stated.
"As I was saying, I was on my way to the store to buy food when I saw a sky blue light with specks of indigo in it. So, I went towards it and was sucked in," I continued. Before I could start my next sentence , I heard Zementhia murmur under her breath.
"Sky blue? But that's the color of the griffin's world..."
I continued my account of what happened, "Around half way through, the color of the light changed to an indigo color with sky blue flecks in it."
Amara remarked, "Amazing! Interconnected portals! And the fact that you, Evan, were conscious for the whole interdimensional warp is incredible! How lucky you are as well. If the portal had stopped in the griffin lands or worse the cyclops land..." she shuddered.
"Yes, how very lucky," the princess said. However it seemed that she was focused on something else. It began to sink in. Where I was, who these people were, how lucky I was and- wait! "How did you know my name!" I exclaimed in a panicked rush.
The princess said, " I'm very sorry. We forgot to mention our abilities in this land. Please calm down." A mist came from Zemanthia's hand and swirled around me like a silver whirlpool drowning me in a feeling of calmness.
"Some of us shadow arms can use magic to... probe someone's mind. See who they are," she explained. She chose her words carefully. "Amara has that ability. Because of this, we know your name is Evan. We know you are a half human male. You are age 17. Your birthday is August 16th. Your birthday is the day it will be revealed what your other half is. Amara could sense you are only half human but she could not sense the other half. I am also 17, and I am also... not a... pure breed."
I'm not fully human? It was a lot to take in. But I wasn't given much time to process it.
"Why don't we take you around the kingdom?" Amara said with bubbly energy.
