At lunch the next day I stood at the head of the cafeteria trying to decide if I should sit with my friends or with Austin and his crew.
Austin made eye contact with me and smiled. I looked at my friends table and they waved me over. I nudged towards Austin's table and Riley gave me a thumbs up so I smiled and walked to Austin.
Austin moved over for me so I sat next to him, kissing his cheek before I settled in. He obviously didn't like how it made him look because he wiped it off and let out a huff, only causing me to laugh.
"Elena these are my friends. I know you met them all yesterday but thats Eli, Mark, Tito, and Kip."
"Didn't think Austin had the balls to actually make a move on Winston's girl," Tito smirked. "Looks like our little Aus is growing up."
Austin rolled his eyes and shook his head. I sipped my carton of milk as they all dove back into the conversation they were having prior to me sitting down.
"What's Dal's piece doing here with you clowns?" Curly nudged himself between me and Austin. He looked at me, and with the way his eyes stared me down I understood why Dally never wanted me near him. "I don't think we've met."
"Elena," I stuck my hand out and Curly took it, pulling it to his face and kissing it.
"A pleasure." He said in a low voice. "What brings you to this end of the cafeteria? Don't you belong right about there?" He pointed towards Dally's table.
"She's going out with Austin." Tito butt in. "Surprising right?"
Austin threw a carrot at him and they began laughing. Curly's eyebrow raised as he glanced between Austin and I.
"What started this? And where was I to beat him to it?" Curly joked, his arm around my shoulders.
"Skipping school," Austin huffed.
"Follow up question, how is ole Dally dealing with this?" Curly laughed. "He beat the shit out of me for telling someone he cheated on ya, Elena."
I glanced away then down at my plate of food. It got quiet at the table. I looked at Curly then away again.
"I don't want to talk about Dally okay?"
Curly chuckled, "whatever you want, sweetheart."
"Now move, would ya?" Austin shoved Curly out of the seat and closed the space between us by pulling my body closer to his.
Curly sat on the other side of me and conversation at the table carried on like normal. I listened in as they talked amongst themselves. I played with Austin's fingers under the table until he stopped me by putting his hand on my thigh and rubbing his thumb as he ate his food and talked with his friends.

I was walking towards Blake and his friends after school when someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me back.
When I saw it was Dally I let out a sigh and put my head down. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it.
"I wanna make it all up to you." He put his hand on my arm.
"You can't. At least not now, Dally."
"Why not now?" He sighed. "I want you now."
"Why is it so hard for you to move on?" I looked up at him. "Dally its over."
"No it isn't and you and I, and everyone else who knows us knows that it isn't over. You're wasting our time and putting everyone on edge because no one knows where you and I stand." He tried grabbing my wrist again when I tried walking away but I yanked my arm away.
"Seriously and who's fault is this!? I didn't cheat!" I yelled at him.
He looked around, embarrassed that I was yelling and causing a scene. He stepped closer to me and spoke quieter.
"You're just leading that boy on."
"No, I was leading you on, Dal. I'm tired of worrying about who you're with. Its refreshing to know I'm gonna be with someone who cares about me-"
"Dmanit, Elena, I do care about you. And what, you've known him for two days? He isn't your boyfriend you two hardly even know each other." He snapped. "Im the one who loves you."
"Shut the hell up," I sighed and turned around. "Find a girl who you won't cheat on, Dallas. No girl deserves what you did to me." I looked away from him and walked to Blake.
"Hey, kid," Blake took me under his arm and kissed my head. "Saw you talking to Dal."
I glanced behind me and Dallas was still standing there. He was glancing around as if he didn't know what to do next.
I put my hand out for the keys, "ill go wait in the car."
"Actually, Lena, I'm hanging out with my friends today," he rubbed the back of his neck.
I looked at his friends who were also looking at me. I sighed and stepped away. "Fine ill figure something out."
"Love you, kid ill see you tonight." He grabbed my wrist as I tried walking away. "Dont be upset."
"I'll find one of my friends dont worry. Love you." I pulled my wrist away and walked off.
I walked to the grass and sat under a tree. I didn't wanna hang out with anyone at the moment. My friends only wanna talk about my status with Dallas vs Austin. Some are rooting for Dal and I, others for Austin, others for me to find someone better than both.
"Hey, Elena, wanna come hang?" Two-bit was striding past with Ponyboy following loosely behind. "Gonna go bother Soda at work."
"No thanks." I pulled a book out of my backpack, "ill just hang here."
"Don't be a stranger. Just cause you and Winston broke up don't mean you ain't our girl." He ruffled my hair and walked off with Ponyboy.
I smiled a little and began reading my book.
