A long black sedan pulled up in front of the school as Blake and I stood with our social worker. Dally held my hand and Anderson, Steve and Two-bit were all standing nearby as well.

Students stared at the car. As did we. No one ever pulls their car there. No one was even getting out of the car. Even the windows were so tinted we couldn't see inside.

A man got out of the drivers seat and walked around the car to the back passenger seat. A tall man stepped out of the car. He had a grey suit on and silver aviators.

Our social worker rubbed my shoulder before walking forward and stopping in front of the man.

"What the hell?" I whispered to Blake.

"Is your uncle in the FBI?" Two-bit snickered.

I glared at him and tucked myself further under Dally's arm. Blake glanced at me then back at our social worker who was talking to the man.

"I know a fed when I see one." Anderson muttered. "I ain't got a good feeling about this, Ellie."

"I don't think he's in the FBI." I huffed. "Both of you shut up."

"Blake, Elena." They approached us. "This is Gomer Rivers. You'll be going home with him."

"How can you just hand us off to some... stranger?" I glared. "Me and Blake are fine."

"Your aunt reached out for help, Elena. My brother would want me to help his kids." Our uncle took his sunglasses off. "You'll be in good hands."

"And where do you suppose we'd be living?" I crossed my arms. "Gonna get me jumped going over to the west side?"

"You'll be safe. I'll have my assistant take you to and from school every day." He gestured towards the car. "We've already sent for your bags to be packed."

"What are you?" I snapped.

"Elena.." my social worker tilted her head. "He's here to help."

"What are you?" I snapped again.

He chuckled a little, "I own Oklahoma's biggest lawfirm. I'm a retired detective and lawyer."

"Fed! Knew it!" Two-bit cackled.

"He's not a fed," I rolled my eyes.

My uncle cleared his throat, "not a fed. But I do have standards, as well as safety procedures, background checks, and a lot of rules I expect you to follow."

"Background checks?" I rolled my eyes.

He glanced at all of my friends, "yes. I have all your files. But for your friends... well, we will talk."

I put my backpack down and stepped towards him. "Im gonna let you in on a little secret, Gimbo." I stared up at him and squinted my eyes. "I don't belong on the west side. My boyfriend here, he will be frequenting our house. I don't have a curfew, I don't have rules, and I sure as hell ain't getting chaperoned around. When you agreed to take in Blake and I, you opened up a world of hurt on your rich ass, bougie, west side,  mansion living life. You can try to act like you have authority over me but if we're being honest here, we all know I rather be living in this courtyard than going home with you." I pushed past him and dragged Dally with me.

-

"My assistant will be driving you to school in the mornings until I can find someone to designate that job."

"We know how to drive." Blake set his backpack down. "We don't need chaperones."

He stared at us, "it'll be easier if we have someone-"

"Let us drive ourselves to school." Blake snapped. "Its the least you could do considering."

My uncle looked between us then sighed, "I suppose that could be okay. Once you two get settled we can talk about house rules."

"We won't be living here long." I set my bag down. "No need for so many adjustments. I crouched down to my bag and fished out my lipstick. "I'll be with Dally. Don't come find me." I  kissed Blake on the cheek and quickly ran out the door.

-

I opened the door slowly and lead Dally into the house. He scoffed under his breath as he seen the size of the house upon entering.

"We've been waiting on your arrival." A girl spoke.

Dally jumped a little so I giggled and tightened my grip on his hand.

"I don't think we've met." She walked towards Dally and I. "Im Kate Anne." She stuck her hand our directly at me.

I shook her hand slowly, "Elena.."

She did a little nod then looked up at Dally, "you must be the boyfriend? Mr. Rivers told me you'd probably make an appearance."

Dally nodded his head.

"Why are you up?" I changed the subject.

She turned and began walking. "Ive worked for Mr. Rivers for almost six years now. He's placed me to be your keeper."

I scoffed and trailed behind her, "keeper? I don't need a keeper. I'm not a safety deposit box."

She let out a laugh and glanced back at me. "He just needs to know you're safe and out of trouble. I've just been told to know your wearabouts. And as long as you're not home, I shall be waiting for you to return to escort you to bed. Maybe he didn't inform you of the 12am curfew seeing as it's almost 3am."

I followed her up the stairs, "I already told him no curfew."

She gave me a look then continued down the hall as we got up the stairs. "Your room is opposite Mr. Rivers. Blake's is actually downstairs."

"Why? Isn't that creepy? I don't even know this man and of the four rooms on this floor he had to give me the one closest to his?"

"He says it's to keep an ear out for you. Says it'll be difficult for all of us to wrangle you."

I let out a laugh and sat down on the bed with Dally, "I can't wait to get the hell out of this place."

"Goodnight Ms." She nodded her head at me and closed the door behind me.

Dally threw his jacket off and let out a sigh as he laid back, "what a joke."
