Dally's POV

I woke up in Elena's bed. She wasn't there but I knew she didn't want me to stay. We didn't have sex last night. Hell, I felt her get up from bed in the middle of the night and she never came back. I'm guessing she slept on the couch.

I stared at the ceiling and didn't know what to do. I could get up and slip out the window, wait for her to come back into the room, or go see if she's up yet.

I could hear Samson walking around and getting ready for school and I know his feelings towards me so I knew I couldn't just walk out of her bedroom. I don't even know if her brothers know I'm here. I sat up and glanced around the room. I looked out the window and stared at the blue sky.

Elena came into the room, "Sam needs you to move your car so he can leave." She walked to my shirt, jacket and shoes that were on the floor.

"El," I grabbed her wrist as she handed them to me. She refused to look at me so I put my hand under her chin and turned her face.

I stared into her eyes then leaned in to kiss her. She pulled her face away and walked away from the bed.

"I can't, Dallas. You should leave anyway you have work soon. Go home and shower." She walked out of the bedroom.

I groaned and laid back on her bed. I stayed there for a moment before sitting up and putting my shirt and shoes on.

I held my jacket and walked out of her bedroom. Her brothers were in the livingroom with Elena. She walked to the door and opened it while her brothers stood there glaring at me. I wanted to snap at them for doing it but I knew El would get upset.

"Elena," I leaned against the doorframe, "I don't know what this means for us."

She rolled her eyes a little, "it means nothing."

"Then why'd you..." I sighed. "Damn it, Elena, you can't do that."

"Do what?" She snapped at me. "We kissed, thats it, Dally. We had a moment. A moment doesn't get over the fact that you-"

"Cheated, I know." I stopped her. "I hate not talking to you and seeing you every day though. If you dont want to get back together you at least gotta stop avoiding me. I can be civil."

She shrugged her shoulders, "I guess." She shut the door.

Elena's POV

While Dallas was at work I went to hang out with the gang. Darry had work but Steve and Soda had the day off.

"Dallas slept over last night," I revealed.

The boys stopped what they were doing to now pay attention to me. They gathered around the couch where I was sitting which caused me to laugh.

"What? Are yall back?" Pony asked.

"No," I shook my head.

"Did you guys have sex?" Two-bit asked.

I rolled my eyes and shook my head, "absolutely not. We kissed thats all."

"Kissed or made out?" Soda smirked.

I huffed, "kissed once, made out once. We probably would have slept together but surprisingly he didn't want to."

"Dal didn't?" Johnny laughed. "Wouldn't have guessed he'd be a gentleman."

"Me either." I smiled a little. "Either way, he went to work this morning and my brothers gave me an ear full."

Steve ruffled my hair, "ah, you and Dal are destined. Never seen him try so hard."

"He should have tried harder when we were dating." I muttered.

"How'd he even get you to let him into the house? Before you wouldn't stop going on about how you'd never forgive him, you hate him, never want to see his stupid face again," Sodapop chuckled.

"He is stupid and I do hate him." I laughed and stood up. "But he's cute and irresistible and I do want to get back together some day."

"So why drag it on?" Two-bit asked. "Dal mopes around and complains, just give him what he wants so he can just shut up."

I glared and walked into the kitchen, "I havent forgiven him."

"So forgive him." Two-bit followed me.

"I can't just forgive him he cheated on me for-"

"Ten months," the boys recited in unison.

"We know. You won't stop saying it." Ponyboy laughed.

"Because its upsetting. And I'm pissed at all you assholes for not even telling me." I grabbed a beer and went back to the couch, sprawling out across Steve and Soda.

Steve shook his head, "there was no way I was going to be the one to break it to you. Dal always said he'd kill the person to tell you. It just happened to be your brothers so he had to hold himself back. Or Sam and Blake would have been jumped."

"Well I feel stupid for being with him for so long. Nearly a year." I sighed and opened the beer.

"Are you gonna get back into dating? Or wait until you forgive Dally?" Johnny asked.

"I don't know. I don't know how long it'll take for me to want to get back together with him. Or for me to want to go on a date with another guy." I sighed. "Promise you guys will tell me when Dally goes out with a girl? I want to know if he's waiting for me."

They all looked at each other, each one waiting for someone to tell me what I wanted to hear. None of them wanted to agree to go behind Dally's back and tell me. Its understandable, yet upsetting.

"Geez, Okay." I rolled off the boys and took a sip of the beer. "I see."

"Sorry, El," Soda rubbed the back of his neck.

"We can't put ourselves in harms way," Johnny laughed a little. "Going against Dal is like spitting on satan."

"Tell me about it. One time I told him I was going to tell Elena and I swear he was gonna kill me right there." Pony shook his head. "Worst mistake I could've made. Scared me a little."

"Stupid," Soda teased his brother.

"Dal isn't that scary," I laughed.

They all stared at me and began laughing. "Elena, Dal would push a kid off a swingset for the fun of it."

"He's sweet to me." I smiled. "Sometimes. Not all the time but he has his moments."

I thought about last night. As he read the letter to me I could hear his heartbeat through his chest. My head was on his shoulder. He'd pause frequently and we'd sit in silence until he began to read again. It was a kind of moment I wished for more often when we were dating.
