When He Returned - Part 9

He seemed taller, and stronger, and his shoulders broad. His body was fit and lean. He looked amazing, like the man I fell in love with. I had a fear I'd fall in love with him all over again, but I couldn't let that happen.
I straightened myself up snapping out of my trance as I continued to approach the table shakily. Five years. Five long years of not seeing his face, not being around him, feeling his presence, his touch, and here he was, standing before me.
He turned looking at me a little startled as his eyes fixated on me ... His smile disappearing as he forgot everything and focused solely on me.
He seemed stunned, shocked. I didn't know what about. Maybe I wasn't the same as I was five years ago. Maybe I looked older, different.
"Eva ..." He spoke.
My heart skipped a beat. The silkiness in his soft voice as he said my name, it brought back too many memories. This day shouldn't have come.
I cleared my throat inhaling sharply as I gathered myself together. "Miss Moore." I corrected as I extended my hand out towards him watching him intently. "Glad you could make it Mr. Jackson."
He was baffled. I never was so formal with him before. I knew he wanted the hug and kisses we would share when we greeted each other, but not this time. I wasn't going to forget the pain he put me through.
He raised his arm blinking slightly in confusion as he clasped my hand. I shook it firmly feeling a tension as he tried to pull me closer for a hug.
But I resisted.
I looked down at our hands as I pulled away abruptly. "Please, seat yourself."
I knew he was hurt. I knew he was shocked. I expected him to be so. But what did he expect? That he’d come back home to a happy loving woman who would pretend like nothing even happened and take him back? He needed to know that this wasn't the way to treat me and get away with. It wasn't a way to treat any woman and get away with.✨
