"Welcome home," Steve says greeting me at the bottom of the jets ramp
"Why, thank you Steve," I I say as I take the helmet he stretches out and gestures towards me to get on the bike "Ok, let's get this over with"
"I'll be gentle" He says with a laugh starting the bike. I look at it apprehensively.
"So what do you have planned?" I ask as I toss one leg over the back of the bike trying to sit comfortably
"The SHIELD Christmas party is tonight, thank goodness you got in on time for that" He says looking back at me, he smiles softly.
"Oh I completely forgot about the party" I say acting like I would've gone if I had remembered, I only get along with a few of the shield agents, plenty dislike me now because of who I am. "I don't have anything nice to wear"
"Natasha gave me a few different options for you. As soon as I told her you were going to be in town she brought me a box full of dresses for you to borrow" He says smiling. That little sneaky spy thinks of everything. Great it sounds like I don't have any good excuse to not go then.
"Hold tight" Steve says, revving the bike and pushing off. I wrap my arms around his waist and rest my head on his back relaxing slightly.
Natashas dresses were in a box already waiting in my room, the only one that caught my eye was a red knee length skater dress with a silver waist band. I ended up placing my hair up with the same silver clips I reserved for my birthday.
"Hey Steve" I shout from the kitchen to get his attention as I strap my short silver heels on, knowing that if my heels were any higher Steve would end up carrying them all night so I didn't hurt myself. "How are we getting there, I look too nice for a helmet"
Steve laughs from his room, small rustling occurs and then I hear him walk out into the living room
"SHIELD is sending a car," I hear him say, and he suddenly stops walking, I hear him quietly say "wow"
"Good or bad wow" I ask slightly embarrassed
"You look amazing" he says stepping closer to her me placing a hand on my back only inches away from me "You always do"
"You clean up nicely too," I smile up at him, placing my hand on his chest to steady myself. I get lost in his impossibly blue eyes as we stare at each other for what feels like forever before his phone rings
"That's the car, let's go" He says grabbing my hand leading me out of the apartment
The car ride is quiet, it feels slightly uncomfortable. I feel like I should bring up what just happened, friends don't stare into each other's eyes like that but what do I even say.
The car stops outside of SHIELD HQ, Steve gets out first jogs around to my side of the car and opens the door for me, as I step out of the car I trip slightly, Steve catches me of course.
"Always the hero aren't ya" I poke fun at him taking his arm as he leads me inside.
"I gotta protect my girl don't I" He says, placing his hand on top of my hand that's currently holding his arm.
My god what's happening I think to myself
Natasha is the first to walk up to us upon entering the event space, Clint follows and both already have drinks in hand. I end up hugging them both.
"I thought you would pick that dress, it's perfect" Nat says, gesturing to me.
"Thanks for letting me borrow it, it's very nice" I saw taking a step back to Steve's side
