Light pours into Steve's apartment. The beams of the sun hitting me in the face causing me to bury my head further into my pillow, it only takes me a moment to realize the pillow is Steve
"Morning beautiful" Steve says, his normal sweet tone rougher as he wakes from his sleep "How are you feeling?"
"Like I was hit by a truck" I mutter holding my head "And I didn't even get to drink to deserve this headache"
Finally waking up enough to realize what's happening I realize that not only is my head on Steve's chest so is my hand. His arms are wrapped protectively around my waist, and I'm nestled between his legs. I jump off the couch as fast as I can, almost falling completely over the coffee table.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry" I almost shout running back to my room, hearing a small chuckle come from the living room as I close the door
I take a few deep breaths and turn on the shower. I sit in the water for a while, unsure how much time has passed. I create a little rain cloud in the shower. The little rain cloud has the same effect as it did so many months ago, it helps me calm down at least a little, keeping my mind off my father.
I step out of the shower, and again on my bed is another set of sweats. I'll take any comfort I can get at this moment.
Back in the living room the TV is still showing clips from the Malibu house, but the scene has changed, now its of a search and rescue group is working on our home. Dads still missing, not much has changed. Looking around I don't see Steve.
Great you fell asleep crying on your friend and now he wants nothing to do with you I think to myself, slightly dejected as I think about how I messed up our friendship.
"I'm making breakfast" Steve's voice calls out from the kitchen "You need to eat something, we didn't get to eat last night and your stomach was rumbling in your sleep"
"I'm...Thank you for everything" I say, starting to apologize but then correcting myself
"Kay, you are the most important person in the world right now, I'm here for you no matter what" He says stepping out of the kitchen. He walks over to me and pulls me into a hug, holding me for a moment.
"I'm sure that's not true, there's far more important people in the world" I say placing a hand on his chest trying to pull back
"Not to me, Kay, you are the only thing that matters to me right now" He says, holding me impossibly close to him.
"Steve, I just can't believe my dads gone, it doesn't feel right" I say stiflingly another sob
"Hey, it's ok, you know how tough he is, let's not doubt him now, they haven't found anything relating to him at the house, they are clearing debris as we speak and he's nowhere to be found" He says pausing looking into my eyes "Your father is so stubborn no way he lets his get him"
"Thanks steve" I say finally pulling away
"Sit. I'll bring you food" He says walking back into the kitchen
I sit at the small table, the sleeves of the sweatshirt I have on nearly go past my fingers. As I push up the sleeves I notice something strange about the bracelet my father gave me for my birthday. The silver bracelet is emitting a blue light from under it where the etched heart is. I turn the silver band in my hand and suddenly I hear a voice, a female voice.
"Hello miss, I have a message from your father." This unknown female voice, that I could only assume is an AI. It's very strange to hear a different voice other than the familiar voice of JARVIS "You must be confused Kaylee, please call me SARAH, your father picked my name"
