The Hidden Family

The jet lands on the familiar grounds of Clint's farm house. Everyone steps off the jet, Clint and I leading the group supporting Nat as we walk together. I hear Thor mutter something behind us, but I'm too lost in thought to even really care what he's saying. We walk through the door and I smile at the familiar living room.

"Honey, I'm home" Clint says walking into the living room grating Laura with a kiss "Company. Sorry, I didn't call ahead."

"This is an agent of some kind" Tony says turning to Steve, I just shake my head and smirk at his comment giving Laura a small wave just enough for her to see

"Gentlemen, this is Laura" Clint says to the room, not addressing Nat or myself.

"I know all your names" she says with a nervous laugh

"Ooh. Incoming" Clint says as I hear small footsteps running on the wood floor Clint leaning down to greet the kids "Hi, sweet heart! Hey, buddy. How are you guys doing?"

"These are smaller agents." My father looks absolutely bewildered, facial expression only matched by Steve and Thor's.

"Did you bring Auntie Nat and Auntie Kaylee?" Lila the younger of the kids asks

"Why don't you hug us and find out" Nat says as we both step out from behind the boys, Lila runs up and attaches herself to Nat, while Cooper comes up and hugs me lightly, i can tell he's getting older, im suddenly less of the cool aunt.

"Sorry for barging in on you" Steve says looking at now all 6 of us still confused

"Yeah, we would have called ahead but we were busy having no idea that you existed" Tony says looking at me with mild disappointment, I just shrug at him in response to his look and go back to fussing over Cooper, once he had enough of me fawning over him he backs away to his mother.

"Yeah. Well Fury helped me set this up when I joined, only these two knew about it" Clint says motioning to both Nat and I.

"Kay, of course you have your room, everyone else's is a free for all, but you will need to share, we don't have enough rooms sadly" Laura says with a smile as I nod to her in response

Lila comes up and takes my hand. I smile down at her and bend down so she can jump on my back to give her a piggyback ride. Thor seems spooked and quickly walks outside, Steve follows him. I briefly look his way and see him walk back to the jet.

"Little bird your growing, soon I won't be able to do this anymore" I say with a large smile

"Auntie Kay, I can't help it" she says giggling, as i bounce her up and down on my back and walk her around a bit

"I'm going to get cleaned up, and then we can hang out and do whatever you want ok?" I say putting her down

"Deal, Iv missed you Auntie Kay" She smiles up at me

"Iv missed you too Little Bird, since I guess the secret is out I can now visit more often" I look between Clint and Laura "After all I have missed babysitting"

"You know that will be a blessing" Laura says sweetly as I put my hand on her belly feeling the baby kick, having a small tinge of sadness course through me.

I walk upstairs to my room, it's small but nice, I have a few extra sets of clothes here in case of emergency. I grab a set of leggings and a tank top laying them on the bed I go shower. Thinking back to the vision I had. I try to shake it off, but I can't.

I walk out of the bathroom with my towel wrapped around me. Secretly hoping Steve would be waiting for me but he's not there. I get dressed and go back downstairs. Both of the kids are already with Natasha, so I choose to not bother them right now.

I stand out on the porch, and look around. This, the secluded house, the land, the mountain view, it has always been my dream. Lost in my own world I almost miss my father approaching me.

"Hey Kay, are you ok?" He says placing an arm around me

"As I can be, sorry I didn't tell you about Clint's family, I mean I did have a good reason" I say leaning into him, placing my arm around his waist as his grip on my shoulder becomes tighter.

"It's understandable, what did you see, when the freaky twin used her mind powers on you?" Tony asks, rubbing my arm slowly, until fully pulling me in for a hug.

I tell him everything, from Steve marrying someone else, to having the life he can't have with me, to it somehow being my fault that he died. He hugs me as tight as he can.

"I'm not leaving you," he says as he holds me as I cry "Have you talked to Steve since?"

All I can do is shake my head no and cling onto him with all that I have. My tears wetting his shirt.

"Auntie Kaylee, Mommy wants to make dinner, want to help? We can play music and dance like we used to" Lila says pulling in the edge of my shirt, I take a deep breath, letting go of my father

"Sure thing little bird, let's do it" I say, pushing down any emotions and taking her hand going inside "What do we want to make for dinner Laura?"

"I was thinking chicken pot pie, that way we have enough for everyone" She says with a smile, I pull on an apron and start chopping ingredients while moving to the music that we are playing in the kitchen, dancing with both Laura and Lila.

I barely notice Steve walking into the kitchen until I spin around while dancing, and I stop dead in my tracks. Look at him, then quickly look away and turn back to cutting vegetables continuing to try to push my emotions down. Clenching my jaw this time. I hear him walk away and I let out a sigh of relief.

"Now, I know I haven't seen you with him, but I know what Clint told me, and I know that's not normal, what's up Kay?" Laura says looking over at me

"After what happened out there, I'm just a bit messed up, I don't know if I can even face him right now, I don't know what he saw, but what I saw, it broke me. It hurts." I say, setting the knife down on the counter with a sigh trying to hold back tears.

"It was just a vision, if that, mind control is messy, you know how it messed with Clint" she says comfortingly "Its ok to cry, but you should talk to Steve about it, from what you have told me you and him are perfect together, he will understand what is happening to you."

"This is why you're the better Barton." I say with a small smile "Maybe I'll talk to him after dinner."

Dinner is quiet, but pleasant, a nice break, a moment of peace while we rest and try to collect ourselves. After dinner Lila requests me to read her a bedtime story. She's being difficult to put to bed tonight, it takes a few stories before she's finally tired enough to go to sleep.

I go back to my room and Steve's already in bed, asleep. I'm not too shocked he's already asleep, it's been an insane 24 hours for all of us. At least he's here. I think to myself while slipping into bed quietly so as to not wake him. I fall into a dreamless sleep.
