Early in the morning I'm woken by the sun shining into the room, Steve's arm is securely around me, holding me tightly. Good signs I guess I think to myself, knowing I need to get up but not wanting to. I place my hand on top of his and fall back asleep. When I wake up next Steve is gone. I look out the window and see him chopping firewood.
I get ready and go out to the porch Laura handing me a cup of sweet iced coffee, exactly how I like it. Lila is already coming over to hang out with me, she braids two braids on either side of my head and smiles as I put my hair back so the braids show nicely in my ponytail.
I look over to my father who's now chopping wood with Steve. They seem to be having an argument. I see Steve rip a log in half. damn, that's new, and hot I think watching his every move.
It's been over a day since we last spoke to each other, and this hasn't happened in 2 years. We at least call or text just to check in, but I guess it's different, he can see me. I can see him, but neither of us initiated conversation.
"Hey kiddos, you wanna go down to the lake?" I say with a smile as both Cooper and Lila get very excited, "Great get changed we will go in a half hour"
It's relaxing to step away for a while, Bruce comes with us, I can see that the lake is as relaxing for him as it is for me. I play with a ball of water turning it into a small cloud and raining on him, he smiles back at me.
"It's nice to see you happy" he says brushing the water off his shoulder
"I don't know if you would call what I am happy Bruce, I'm honestly masking a few different emotions down right now" I say with a sigh, trying hard to keep my mask up.
"I know, the big guy can feel just how upset you are, you two are still connected, not as much as years ago, but he still cares for you, in fact I think you're the only person he truly cares for." Bruce says to me, I had almost forgotten the connection Hulk and I have, we don't interact as much because Natasha can calm him out of the Hulk state.
"I guess it's good to know I have the big guy on my side in a fight" I laugh a little, wondering just how different my life would have been if I hadn't defied my fathers wishes and worked in the lab with Banner all those years ago.
"We may want to go inside," Clint says, walking over to us. "We are about to have a guest, Tony is meeting with him in the barn right now."
I give him a confused look, but realize the only other person who could drop by would be Fury. But why send my father out to meet him, in the barn of all places.
We go inside and Laura and I start to make dinner again, as soon as we put food on the table Fury and my father walk in the door, we all eat in silence again, but after dinner Fury starts a meeting
"Ultron took you folks out of play, to buy himself time. My contacts all say he's building something, the amount of vibranium he made off with, I don't think it's just one thing." Fury says pouring himself tea in the kitchen
"What about Ultron himself" Steve says standing in the doorway to the kitchen arms crossed
"Oh he's easy to track. He's everywhere. The guys multiplying faster than a catholic rabbit" Fury jokes, I try to keep my composure and not laugh at his statement "Still doesn't help us get an angle on any of his plans, though"
"Is he still going after launch codes?" Tony asks from the other room, distracting himself by playing darts
"Yes he is, but he's not making any headway" Fury says pouring himself more tea
"I cracked the pentagons firewall in high school on a dare." Tony says confused by the fact that Ultron can't seem to do it
"Well, I contacted our friends at the Nexus about that" Fury starts to explain
