"What's up Nicholas" I say maybe too happy as I answer the phone getting off the couch, my father looking at me questioningly

"Fenix, you know I don't like it when people call me that" He replies "I have a project for you if your up to it"

"Coffee? Sounds great! You know I'm a sucker for a good iced coffee" I say, overly excited with a giggle, really trying to sell the lie "When do you want to meet?"

"Can you come to DC tomorrow?" He asks

My heart skips a beat as I think about Steve, the fact that he lives in DC and works for SHIELD ups my odds of running into him. We have had a decent amount of contact since the events of last month, mostly a phone call here and there to talk about movies he has seen, books he's read, or to talk about music.

"Sure thing, I'll be there around 10" I say sweetly, still trying to keep my cover, while I hanging up the phone

"My daughter has a coffee date tomorrow morning?" Tony eyeing me from the couch I was just sitting on with him "I'm glad your finally getting out there kiddo, but you know i'll have to approve of him"

"Yeah I'm excited, and for it I have to return to New York so I can work in person on the tower" I say, walking back over to my father and giving him a kiss on the cheek. The events last month really did help to bring my father and I closer than ever, I'm weirdly thankful for that.

"Don't do anything I wouldn't do kid" Tony shouts after me as i start to make my way out of the lab

"There's nothing you wouldn't do!" I shout back at him and walk upstairs to grab my bags.

"Where are you headed sweetie" Pepper says getting off the living room couch noticing I'm caring my small rolling suitcase and my purse

"Iv, uh got a date, in New York tomorrow for coffee" I say stumbling over my words slightly

"Sure you do, whatever it is, stay safe," Pepper says crossing the room to hug me "Do you want me to take you to the airport?"

"Sure the jet is already waiting, I was just about to call Happy but that sounds better" I smile at her

Pepper grabs her keys off the counter and we both walk out to her car.

"So want to tell me about this guy?" Pepper prods, she knows me better, there is never a guy.

"There's nothing to talk about Pep, it's just coffee." I say getting into the vehicle

"So it is a mission then" Pepper says nodding

"Even if it was, I can't talk about it" The rest of the car ride is silent, when pulling up to the airfield a SHIELD plane is ready and waiting for me.

"I knew it was a mission" pepper says with a smile

"Don't tell Dad, he can't know" I say with a small smile getting my bag out of the trunk "See you later Pepper!"

I step foot into the DC SHIELD office, briefcase in hand and find Agent Hill waiting for me, This time I didn't feel the need to use my uniform for this encounter with SHIELD, it's public knowledge that Stark Industry has been consulting on SHIELD projects, and that the PR president and Consulting liaison occasionally needs to visit in person.

"Ms. Stark" Maria nods at me to follow her

"Agent Hill, it's been too long," I say with a smile, adjusting my skirt. Keeping an eye on the agents around me none of them seem to recognise me.

"You have been granted level 8 clearance for a special project" Hill says, leading me through a heavy and secure door, down a long hall and into an elevator, we travel many floors underground, into the records room that I've been in too many times to count. Another set of elevators are hidden behind a bookcase. Even SHIELD's secrets have secrets. Once we leave the second elevator there is another hallway with yet another thick set of doors. We proceed through those doors and finally run into Fury.
