As time has passed I have gotten closer with the new recruits, the only one who has been still slightly prickilly has been Wanda. Today is the day I'm determined to change that.
"Hey are you busy?" I say standing in the door frame to Wanda's room
"No, just watching some shows" She says slightly distantly, turning the volume down on her tv
"I heard you watching Bewitched the other day, that's one of my favorites." I say with a soft smile sitting on her bed
"Why are you here?" She asks standoffishly
"I wanted to get to know you more, seeing as we are two girls with some crazy powers" I say awkwardly, now playing with the necklace Clint gave me a few years ago.
"Did the archer give you that? Clint?" She asks looking at the arrow
"He did" I say softly
"He was worthy of my brother saving him?" She asks bluntly
"That's not an easy question to answer." I say with a heavy sigh. "I didn't know your brother well, but I know seeing Clint and him interact, Clint cared for him, in his own funny way. I know we both wish we could have done more, that no lives were lost that day."
"You didn't feel the same years ago" She says quietly enough that I barely hear her
"What do you mean?" I ask sincerely not understanding
"My parents, they were killed when we were ten, Sokovia, my home was under attack" She says with pause. "All I can remember is your name plastered on the side of the missiles, I have tried to not let my past affect my feelings for you, but you were complacent in the attacks."
"Wanda, what year was that? 1999 if I remember correctly?" I say with confusion, remembering the news story about war in Sokovia
"Yes" she says coldly
"Wanda, I was 14, I had no say in my fathers business. Yes, He made weapons before everything happened in the desert, he was taken advantage of by someone he trusted, who sold from behind his back. But he's changed, he stopped manufacturing and selling of any weapons as soon as he could." I say with a sigh again, "Now, I won't lie, 14 year old me was too focused on why my father didn't love me, and tormenting whatever new live-in babysitter I had at the time because I was bored. I did not worry about what my father business was doing, but that doesn't make it better I know"
"You are right, your name just brings back bad memories" She says with a tear falling from her eye
"I'm sorry Wanda, I know my Apologies don't make up for my fathers sins nor his companies sins, but I hope we can still be friends" I say extending my hand to her, the next thing I knew she's wrapping me in a hug
"Forgiven, I'm sorry I've been so cold" she says pulling away
"Yeah don't forget that's my job" I say with a laugh creating a small cloud in her hand watching it slowly produce snow.
We both start laughing and having fun with each other, not realizing that Steve and Vision are both watching us from the door until Vision speaks startling us
"Your mate is extraordinary" Vision says to Steve, more loudly than maybe he intended to
"Jesus you both have soft footsteps" I say almost in a scream looking at Steve's reddening face at me being called his mate "And Vision, mate really isn't the correct term, or I guess it's just outdated"
"But you are extraordinary" Steve mumbles under his breath barely loud enough for me to hear
"Sorry to interrupt, but you are both late for training" Vision says floating away
"Oh gosh I guess we lost track of time!" I say looking at my watch quickly running out of the room yelling behind me "I'll meet you down there Wanda"
"You have to be more responsible Kaylee, it's your job to set an example for them" Steve says as he holds the elevator door open looking at me in an extremely disapproving manner, his words strike a chord in me. I instantly become upset. I know I'm better than getting distracted. I can't let it happen again.
