Destiny, sometimes, would be really unfair.
My hands are shaking too.
One... two... three... four... fifty-five... eighty-nine... ninety-one...
I counted my heart rate although I knew it was already beyond normal.
I am tensed. The scenario in front of me give chills to my whole system.
"Ventilator."
I heard him say as he continuously pumps on the patient's chest, resuscitating it to life.
Aydan Eliot fucking Claveria is in front of me, reviving a patient.
What a nice reunion.
I never asked for this. Not ever.
"Nurse Amara, get the ventilator!" Joem shouted, brows furrowed.
That woke me up from revere and quickly moved to get the machine, but before I could turn my back, I saw how Aydan lifted his head and how his mouth ajar from seeing me.
Surprise, motherfucker?
"Here's the machine," I told Joem, not even glancing at Aydan.
"Doc," Joem called him when he still didn't move.
I arched my brow.
"Doc, the machine is here. Mawawalan na ng hininga ang pasyente," I said to wake him up.
That made him move.
I was just watching him as he did that. At hindi ko maitatanging magaling nga siya; he smoothly inserted the tube without hassle. I can see how he loves his profession, how he mastered it; enough for him to choose it over me and his daughter.
What a pity.
"Moved the patient to the ICU for the meantime. Inform the ICU nurses to inject him with 1mg of midazolam and check his pulse every fifteen minutes; update me of his status every hour and if something happens, call me immediately," Aydan instructed us. I took out my notes to write down his words.
"...also, prepare for an MRI. We need to check his brain status when he wakes up and out of ventilation," he added.
I nodded without looking at him. I only looked at him when I'm done writing his orders, waiting for additional instructions.
"Are you new here?" he asked instead, staring at me.
Joem answered for me. "Yes, doc. She's Nurse Amara, ER nurse..." He then turned to me. "Nurse Amara, this is Dr. Aydan Claveria, one of our neurosurgeons."
I nodded and smiled, the one I do when I am not pleased with the person in front of me; and I know he knew that.
"Amara Maureen Dela Serna, Dr. Claveria," I said, putting emphasis on my last name.
"Dela Serna..." he muttered, clenching his jaw.
I arched my brow. "Yes, doc. Dela Serna." I repeated with the same emphasis.
